We used to have a fibre optic tree but after catching cat chewing it whilst it was plugged in! We don't use it anymore...

Last year we had a real tree (but a tiny 3 foot one) it was a low drop needle one, but the cat kept launching aerial attacks from the mantelpiece into it, we got home one day and there was a clear cat shaped dent in it.

Every year we buy cheap baubles and we are lucky if there's one left on tree by Xmas day, she's scared of tinsel tho, so this stays in place.

I agree that if you want cat proof decs, then they need to be on the ceiling, or the cats will find a way to get them if they are on their height!

My older 2 cats generally just tend to whack everything off at the lower branch level, and then maul presents :-/ I am actually dreading the psychotic evil kitten feasting his eyes on my xmas tree and he's a bit of a blimp so no doubt it will be on the floor every 5 minutes.

NB if you've treated your cat to a lovely cat nip toy, don't wrap it up and put it under the tree. Mine have been known to 'unwrap' these toys well before Father Christmas has been.

Decorations wise, I put up a big tree smothered in decorations and hope for the best. The lower baubles do get played with a bit but not too many disasters. I have had years without trees when the cats have been younger and also had tree felling incidents but all good fun.
