Christmas decorations with cats......?

my old cat Timmy used to like to undecorate the tree at night while we were sleeping. until one year we hung up loads of chocolate tree decorations instead of baubles (for the kids)! surprise surprise - the tree remained untouched (by feline paws) and after three days was bare and the baubles went on - and off again!0

Also, it's not cat-related, but your living room is gorgeous!"Most of the people ... were unhappy... ^^^^^^ Yes it is - and that garden looks pretty too!:):):)
just a thought - why not turn the 'cat tree' into a christmas tree?0 -
I'm thinking that the garlands all pulled together could look quite effective in our room. We'd move the cat tree out of the way so we'd not come back to a kitten scampering along the garlands (hopefully)

Lovely room! You might try a net of outdoor fairy lights on the other side of the patio doors or something else outside that can be seen from the inside like on some of the trees/ shrubs?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
We tied our Christmas tree to the wall last year. It was the only way it would stay upright. Every morning, the kids rounded up all the baubles and rehung them, I stood the tree straight(ish) again, and the kittens would start all over again.
One of the kittens' favourite tricks last year was launching herself off the top of the cat tree to try to pull down the ceiling decorations. It made for comical viewing, as she would miss, land in a heap on the floor, and stalk off to sulk somewhere. 10 minutes later she'd be back for a second attempt.
I'm dreading this year, the kittens are no longer kittens, and are much bigger and heavier, but still as loopy, especially the boy. He likes to climb people at the moment, which is always entertaining when there is visitors round, so who knows what he's going to make of the tree.0 -
Aww, thanks for the compliments guys - we did a refurb & extension beginning of the year, so we are a bit proud. Not sure it was worth sleeping at -10C in a 3-walled house during Feb this year though :eek:You might try a net of outdoor fairy lights on the other side of the patio doors or something else outside that can be seen from the inside like on some of the trees/ shrubs?
FF, that is a brilliant idea! I would never have thought of that -thank you so much

Our male cat "likes" a real tree in the dining room; fortunately the floor is wooden and easily wipeable. He does occasionally have issues with spraying so I'm not saying that real trees would always be a problem with boy cats but they are going to seem more like foliage in the outside world. In the living room we have a fake tree, however the cats have a comfy bed in the corner by the radiator in front of which we put the tree. they are quite happy of an evening to lie there hidden. Dangly decoration-wise the lowest baubles occasionally go missing; however a hand-clap when they are on the point of hooking one off usually does the trick. I keep any chocolate a little higher up.
To be honest most of their attention is focused on the box when unpacking and re-packing!0 -
We have this problem, we have two six month old kittens and a twelve year old cat. Before the kittens we could have the Christmas Tree up with no problems as our older cat didn't bother with it.
However now we have the kittens, I don't think we can risk the tree this year seeing as they crazy and have influenced our older cat who now thinks she is a kitten too! Quite amusing to watch them all bomb around the house!
Anyway I think we will go with ceiling decorations this year. That way we can have some decorations without the risk of the cats climbing it, pulling it down, using it as a fort, smashing decorations or eating tinsel......0 -
None of my cats were ever interested in the Xmas tree, not even the Bengal when she was a kitten (at a time when she was climbing absolutely anything - door frames, windows, you name it - but not the tree), they just like to sleep under it.
I have a dislike of tinsel so it's baubles and lights only, artificial tree because it saves me having to go and get one every year (you can tell I'm not really into Xmas decorations, can't you :rotfl: but if I don't put a tree my mum would complain so much that it wouldn't be worth it)
Though as I had the old moggy PTS a few months ago
I have no idea how the other furball will react to the tree this year. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
