    Hi all,

Is bright, sunny but COLD this morning.

Similar to Julie have had a wine fueled weekend, fun, but I must be getting old as its taking a while longer to recover....:o

Washing, cleaning and ironing is the order of the day ( will the fun never end!):D

Bought a huge chicken yesterday, so roast today, chicken pie for through the week, and soup maybe for work.

Looking for inspiration for OH for Xmas, tempted to get him a cider making kit, as we have a bramley tree that fruits like mad, but its expensive and i,m not sure if its worth it, he,d use it, but would take a while for it to pay for itself..... Maybe socks again LOL:rotfl:

I treated myself to River cottage hand book collection from the book peeps, they are great, really enjoying them so far, especially pickeling and cakes ones, oh to be a lady of leisure, we,d be skint, but I could cook up a storm

Love n hugs to the poorlies x

Have a fab day all xx

Bitsy I do feel for you its horrible when the OH has to go away My OH worked in the Sudan for almost three years and only came home for two weeks every three months or so.The girls were then 12 & 14 and missed their Dad dreadfully.I'd never say when he had to go back I'd just take him to the airport at the crack of dawn as they used to get too distressed saying goodbye to him.In all the time he was away we only managed to speak three times on the phone as often the communications were dreadful, even from Khartoum.I'd write to him daily and tell him what we were doing and what the weather was like and all the ordinary things that family life has in it.I remember telling him once about the snow falling outside while I was sitting at the dining room table .He used to get his letters by the bundle of 3-4 weeks at a time .Whe he got this one he was crossing the desert in a Landrover from Khartoum to Port Sudan which was even more remote and read it out to his driver,a local called Deely.Trying to explain to his driver what snow was when the overnight tempretures were 40c+was difficult so I had to send some photos. He eventually came home for good in 1986 and said he just couldn't work there anymore as it was getting a bit dangerous for westerners. He had to carry a revolver when ever he went to work ,not good at all, plus of course he missed the family far too much,It was an experiance, and very well paid, but family and ties in England were far stronger. The girls and I could have gone out there to live for part of the time, but I wasn't keen as it would have meant either leaving the children at boarding school or disrupting their schooling. So home he came in the middle of the eighties and it took him 14 months to find another job but even though times were a bit lean and cash was scarce I was glad he was home with us all again. My eldest DD used to sleep with her Dad's jumper at night as she said it smelt of his aftershave and woe betide me if I washed it :):)Still we survived the trauma's, and the girls realised how hard their Dad was working and why he wasn't around I also learned how to be both Mum and Dad at times and could rewire a wall plug and also learned to tile walls whilst on my own :):).
  • Just popping in to share this coz I know you will understand.

DD: Why is it so cold in the house?
Me: It's not cold - I've even got the back door open
    DD: It's freezing
    Me: Put another jumper on.
DD: I haven't got another jumper
Me: Well put a t-shirt on underneath
DD: I've already got a t-shirt on underneath
Me: You haven't got any socks on!
Dd: No, coz I've been snuggly in my bed (she's a teenager!)
Me: Well, put a scarf on then
DD: I shouldn't have to wear a scarf in my own home. There is such a thing as heating, you know.

    Have I gone too far?:o

    Hi all,

Been a nice autumn day today. When DGD went home at 12,I went outside helping Dh as he has been cutting trees and conifers down.Amazing how much lighter it is in the house. There are so many around the garden its hard to keep on top really. We've cut the big branches up to store for next years wood for the burner, that'll save some money. The rest of it is all piled on the front lawn for now.

Hester,I got a membership for Anc£stry for my birthday.I've been doing it a few years, off and on,like you do.I do like that site ,and it allows you to build it up and make connections with other people searching for the same people.I havent had yearly membership all the time though, sometimes I've done the pay and go.It keeps your records though, even when you havent renewed,so you can still look at them.I really wish I'd got more details off my Gran when she was still alive-I've got a fantastic photo album from early 1900s,and not a clue who most of them are,and loads of letters she kept of her mothers:)

Roast pork for tea, smells ready, better go and check.
Bitsy-have lots of hugs, hopefully it wont be for too long xx

    evening all
worked today so thats out of the way for another three weeks
bits and bobs for tea - kids had cheesy pasta and i had omlette and salad and jacket potato. dont know if this diet thing is going to work as im absolutely stuffed from tea and it was all free. i thought if i added a jacket potato then i wouldnt be tempted to snack later.
got everything ready for school/work tomorrow. little one bathed and were all in our pjs.
made a to do list for next week. menu planning has gone really well...i did a whole month and wrote the shopping lists as well so all i need to add to the list is things i run out of.
washing in machine. will put that on airer as i have now got my heating on and it dries overnight.
dw on and bm on timer for tomorrow
    god im organised today:rotfl:
    have a good evening all

    Evening everyone

Another late post from me. DS2 enjoyed his night hike, apart from the rain and saying he had sore legs. They arrived at camp at 3.30am, I got there at 9 this morning to collect him, he looked tired then, but he managed to go swimming this afternoon and was only in bed at 8.30pm. I really wish I could keep going like he does.

Back to work tomorrow, not really looking forward to it, but have said to myself that I will give it until half term and see how it goes.

os today sorted my pile of clothes out and put them away in wardrobe and drawers. Tidied round my bedroom. sorted ds2 stuff out after camp wm on and hung on line and now on airers so should be dry tomorrow. Ironing done for next few days.

Bitsy - thinking about you and your family, hope you had a good day today. Hopefully it wont be too long until you are altogether all the time.
HH - my dd has been looking on ancestry website, she has done quite well to get back as far as she has. I know another relative has traced one side back to the 1800 so far.
Lou - love the name Jacob, Many congratulations to you all.

Sorry if I have missed anyone. Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care

I am another who tells the kids to put on another jumper or to wear their slippers and dressing gown. I informed them tonight that the heating will not be going on until it is freezing or minus freezing. The bills are extortionate as it is and now that they have gone up yet again  I will have to cut back even more.
I am looking into hay box cooking for casseroles and using the barbecue more in the winter just to try to save money on the electric because we have an electric cooker.

Must admit to blubbing at Downton tonight, what a choker :(
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
