No gas bills for several years - new build

I would suggest that, even after all this time, the OP will still fail to get any meaningful reply from any of the organisations involved!
So long as he/she has the money to pay, and continues to put money aside, then I would suggest writing to all the people who might be involved, possibly at annual intervals, and keep copies/proof of postage etcetc.
When the time comes to sell the house, simply state 'Gas Supplier Unknown', and provide copies of the correspondence to the purchaser's solicitor.
I have been in a slightly similar situation myself, and eventually gave up trying. Eventually I heard from the supplier involved, who were very happy to wipe out my three years' electricity bills in return for me supplying them with the number of my electricity meter.0 -
If it ever got to court, OP, I doubt the judge would take the side of the supplier, especially if you can provide copies of letters.
The courts time is valuable and slipshod admin by the suppliers (or yourself) won't be tolerated.
In the meantime invest the money in a tax free ISA and wait.0 -
every new build estate I have been too, in the last 8 years or so, the whole estate is signed over to a particular supplier who have cut the best deal for their custom proberbly. I ve just been to a new build estate where I read all the electric meters for the whole estate for Scottish Power, even a few which had not even been fully built. Just ask the next door neighbours who they are with to get your supplier. It sounds like the usual new build mess ups which occur all the time. Some of the larger estates we will see more than one supplier for certain sections0

If energy suppliers need to depend upon their customers asking their neighbours about how to pay for their energy, then I am even less convinced about their ability to negotiate effectively on the open market for bulk gas supplies over the following months or years0

Any supplier can tell you by checking xoserve, if however its not on their your builder could of done a sly and got them done on the cheap in an unoficial way london / that way is known for it.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I don't think the blame for these types of problems lay squarely at the door of energy suppliers. They have to rely on the information being accurately passed to them by the Meter Operator or Gas Transporter for each individual property. When you consider there are over 40 million meters up and down the country you can see why administration errors are made. Especially when the engineers have to write the information down on pieces of paper and are then tossed into the back of a van.
The main problem of the industry as i see it is the whole inefficiency of the process. half the time i think they are still stuck back in the 1960's!!!!0 -
I agree with wolf3. i dont think I ve done many new build estates without mess ups along the way, usually its meter serial numbers mixed up with different plot numbers, some of them take years to get put right.A developer writing down incorrect info and passing it on is the most likely scenario. The OP will have had plenty of letters through the door asking for start readings by the suppliers if there had nt have been a mess up.I had a chat with the boss in a site compound once and he told me they had been very careful in the logging of all meter details knowing that that is where all the mistakes begin0

Could even be that no supplier has actually registered it. Completely shipperless.0

I am in the same boat just had a meter installed 7 weeks ago by British Gas and told they would supply me
well I still dont have a bill or customer number
Just rand BG got told they are not my supplier no one is
therefore no one can bill me for the usage because i dont have a supplier
they said I need to decide who i want to supply me then it will take up to 26days for them to become my supplier but till then I wont have to pay for gas as its not my fault and not up to me to notify national Grid
he then said untill you get a supplier no one can bill me
if it up to national Grid to find out that i dont have a supplier and when they do they can bill me for the usage.
my laywer advised that they can only bill me back for 13 months as its their fault
effectifly I can go years till someone find this out
as i am an honest person i will find a company i like and ask them to now supply me
this is rediculous no motivation as I am not paying
strange that the indostry dont care0 -
