EDF no show

I have recently moved house and EDF supply the gas and electric to our property.
I tried to contact them by phone but got fed up being on hold for over half hour each time so wrote to them to state that i had not agreed for them to supply the energy to the house and would not be paying any forthcoming bills until they rang me.
I then received a call a week later from them apologising, and they quoted £65 a month for the elelc and gas, i said i didnt want economy 7 and they offered to come and replace the meter to a single unit meter.
They was supposed to come out between 12 and 6 yesterday but no one turned up (received text on thurs coonfirming the appointment)
Very annoyed as i took the day off work.
Im not sure whether to let them have ny custom or not, a representative is due to call monday to set up the direct debit so i plan to have a moan and see what they can do for me.
In our last house we had economy 7 and no gas so tricky to work out my usage really, from other peoples advice the £65 a month is very reasonable.
Is anybody in the position to comment on EDF or have any other advice on other companies to use?
Thanks in advance

It may not compensate you but you are due a payment (was £20, may have increased) under Guaranteed Standard #8. If they do not pay you within 10 days (I think) another payment under Guaranteed Standard 9.
Regarding who is your supplier, unfortunately you have no choice other than (initially) to go with the current supplier. Once you have registered account details you are free to switch.
As to who, do a comparison, start at the cheapest and work your way down the list until you come to a supplier/tariff combo you are comfortable with.
If you are really quick there are one or two competitive deals fixed until spring 2014.0 -
It won't be EDF who change the mete anyway, it's the DNO or metering comapany. You should be able to claim £25 compensation for a missed appointment from them.
A quote of £65 (or any other price) is completely meaningless, as they will have no idea of your actual future consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
See this thread about your rights to compensation.

You have no contract with a suppliers Meter Operator, so your supplier pays you and sorts out any invoice to their agent.
Suppliers are often at fault in the booking process so its not only down to the engineers.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
BG have recently paid £30 to a friend, as recompense for failing to arrive on the appointed day for a Meter change0

I think I've seen threads with a generous £50 before. They can give what they want as long as its equal to or greater than the GSOS value. I guess its down to the complainants push.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
EDF seem to be the only company that insist on a meter change for moving off Economy 7. Other companies such as EON seem quite happy just adding the two readings together and charging at the same rate.
We moved from EON to EDF expecting the same reading methodology, until I realised we were being charged over the odds for Economy 7 rates (we had signed up to a single rate plan, but they put us on E7 purely because of our meter type without enquiring what our previous arrangement was).
Unless you have electric storage heaters I cannot see any reason why anyone would pay the punative day rates because you are not going to make the money back overnight.
EDF were quick to offer a new meter however and our meter changer (from Siemens) did turn up on time. But it was annoying having to take a day off work for something that hadn't been an issue previously.
Then their system wasn't updated for three months with the new meter and I couldn't enter any meter readings0 -

The industry really needs to resolve this issue.
The problem is that there are 2 conflicting compliance areas, one a formal document defining the suppliers treatment of E7 and the other the practical operation (data allows it for some E7's, Elexon are fine with E7 as one rate on 2 registers as are SVG despite it conflicting with the formal document)
So, the result is suppliers doing it in different ways. If EDF do it FOC for you, that's fine but SP charge as a profit opportunity. Eon & Bgas will add units and bury their heads over the settlement side of the industry that would require them resolving the data side and Npower only add units together where the industry dates allows it for that particular E7 type.
So, adding units is a risky business and while suppliers doing it will argue it benefits their customers...they really know it may all fall apart with your next supplier and don't consider this as their remit...:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Belated thanks for all the replies, after emailing them i received a call sunday saying they are arranging compensation and i will get a call, guy did not know how much it will be.
I have rearranged a date for 6th nov for them to change the meter over, i plan to look around for a better deal if i can but before that was wondering if the prices i pay are about right or i can get a much better deal
Gas 22p daily rate then 3.665p per unit
Elec 18p daily. . 13.19p day rate per unit and 6.1p on night rate
Once meter is changed im told it will be 14p daily and 12.24p per unit
Slight saving for the meter to be changed i suppose, only have a fridge freezer and a small beer fridge running between the hours when the night rate comes into play0 -
The fact the guy doesn't know what to pay you is an indication of their lack of knowledge since the minimums are set by Ofgem.
So, £22 for a missed appointment and a further £22 if its not paid in 10 working days.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
