Problems with sky

Hi I hope someone can help me please, I have just switched from Talk Talk broadband to BT Infinity and all is working fine and am very happy with the broadband, the only problem is my Sky TV
I am not able to use the interactive t v or order films from box office. We have Sky+HD upstairs and Sky multiroom downsrtairs. there is a phone line upstairs running from the master socket downstairs and the BT Homehub and router is downstairs connected to the master socket. The BT Engineer assured me that it would still work. can any one tell me what we are doing wrong and what to do to fix it. Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure what the broadband has to do with Sky. Are you sure that your Sky TV box is connected to your phone line ?

  • You mention phone lines but is your Sky box connected by either ethernet or wireless to your broadband hub?
It needs to be plugged in to phone and broadband to get all the on demand stuff I think
  • Sky would be beamed through the Sky dish the telephone line is only needed to order films etc

Both Sky boxes need to be connected to your phone line as this is a multiroom requirement, if they are not you'll get a warning from Sky, and if not fixed will end up having to pay full price subs for both boxes.
On demand content requires the box to be connected to your router and the Anytime + service activated on you online MySky account.

So are both boxes connected to your phone socket?
Is the Sky+ HD box connected via ethernet to your router?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Broadband is used for the on-demand stuff such as movies in the on-demand section or things like the upcoming BBCi-Player. Simply connect the box to the router via an ethernet cable.
  • I have sky multiroom and the only time I ever need to connect Sky to the phone line is when I want to order something and once I have ordered it I unplug it.
At all other times everything works perfectly well without being connected to the phone line.

I did not say that it would not work, however you are contractually required to have both boxes connected to the phone line to get the discounted multiroom service. If not you'll get a letter form Sky, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow.....................................

  • I have done it that way for years if they want it any other way then they will need to provide me with the equipment.
My phone socket accepts one telephone connection and my house phone takes priority.

Guardsman, a 2-into-1 phone adapter allows for both sky and phone line if you so wish for it to be connected. The on-demand and anytime stuff needs the sky+HD box to be connected, as rightly pointed out earlier, to your router with an ethernet cable - that's how those services are delivered :)

The remote thing that replaces the ethernet cable is on sale at Sky at the moment for £10 down
from £60. or an ethernet cable from a shop is a couple of quid.

Sky do send a signal down the cable to see if the phone line is plugged in occasionally without you knowing. You do get a warning to re plug the phone in, but if they do it again and the phone is not plugged in then you will be charged for everything.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
