You're better off asking on your local Freegle site if anyone has one they no longer need. There's usually one a week being given away on my one.

My apologies, the second sentence is probably not good advice, and I stand corrected.

But I stand by the first line in my post. Its my personal opinion of course. If I dropped my 47 inch telly which cost me £1300 seven years ago, down the stairs, I would most definitely claim for it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

good points, but a new 42inch lcd would be nice, but like mentioned the premiums would go up mmm, or maybe make a claim then cancel the insurance
and not have any, i just dont know

would that be the 42" LCD you were on the lookout for in your post last month? I would stick with your original idea of buying a replacement instead of trying to claim on an old crock you happened to drop.

I really dont see the point of paying contents insurance, year after year and not claim on it.

Ring them and ask them if you made a claim for say a TV how much would premiums rise .

I have decided that my contents and buildings insurance should only cover theft, fire or other disaster, not careless accidents. I say no to all the add ons offered during the quotation process and also accept quite a high excess. The result is my premiums are very low and the risk of me making a claim is also very low. But if and when I really need it - its there for the right claim.

I think if you have been happy enough with a CRT until now then virtually anything should be an OK television for you - perhaps a Panasonic or Samsung as they seem to get good reviews. But if really uncertain pop into a specialist retailer and seek advice.

  • If you were happy with the old telly, you could easily find a replacement (or larger if required) through free ads, freecycle, freegal or similar for nothing - they are inundated with them.
