Dead Tone When People Call Me - Vodafone

Hi All

People have told me that recently when they call me they sometimes get a dead (continuous) tone. I rang VF and the girl was worse than useless and told me I needed to connect to another network and then back to VF. Done this and hoped it had worked but told yesterday it was happening again.

I have emailed VF CEO to complain and ask they look into it expeditiously but I'm not holding my breath!

Has anyone heard of or experienced similar?
Or more importantly does anyone know how to fix this please?
Any other advice or tips?

Thanks for reading

Could be a routing issue - any patterns? Ie, same contacts, your location when it might have happened?

Have you ported your number recently?

The only other scenario I know of that causes this is if an Orange customer has Enhanced Line 2 (Personal Line), no voicemail, is connected to T-Mobile and then becomes disconnected from the network (i.e. out of coverage or turns the phone off), then incoming callers hear a continuous dead tone instead of the usual Orange network announcement "The person you are calling is temporarily unavailable. Please try later". This misleads callers into believing the the number is invalid. This will be fixed when EE merges its two networks.

Does this happen only when you are out of coverage or your phone is switched off?

No I made a call yesterday and someone tried to call me back, couldn't get through so text me and I got it.

The people have called me from both mobiles and landlines and I have been all around London, North, South and Central when it has happened.

Wouldn't mind the number unobtainable message but I use my phone for business and if people call and get dead they'll assume I'm either no longer working, changed my no and not told them or worse still that I have been cut off for not paying my bill!

I was going to say the same as NFH about voicemail it happens to me some times when i call my wife it goes on voicemail and its a dead no sound but she is with 3 network

So could try turning voicemail off and see if it happens again.

I do have voicemail, when busy or unanswered and have forward to landline when unreachable.

Really don't want to have to disable that though!

Does the divert to landline work? Have you tested it recently? Could it be that you have mistakenly forwarded to an invalid number? It would be worth checking this before escalating with Vodafone.

Well thank you, It looks like I might have put a dud number in the forward when unreachable. Can't believe I did not think of that, my only excuse is that I have had so many issues already just assumed it must be VF problem!

Still though, the two times I specifically know it happened I had called them and they were calling me back within minute or so and I was in the same place (sat at the same seat on one occasion!), so I should still have had service, but then again this is VF we are talking about

Have amended the error and will check that it is that.

Thank you so much NFH :T
