Present ideas for 5yr old and 3yr old girls

Yes I'm going to start our own little traditions this year, so far I have just followed on from what my mum did for me growing up.
I am looking forward to putting my own spin on things for my girls!
I always had a massive Santa sack growing up but I don't want stuff so large for the kids, I'm trying to find a way of turning Pillowcases into sacks for them.
Lovely idea
Why not get the girls involved, with ideas what they would like on their own sack? I did this with my daughter and added something every year that she liked. (she doesn't do this now, though, at 16, but I have her stocking in my drawer for when she has her children

There's a board further down which is for Christmas and special occassions, you'll pick up lods of ideas on there. That was where I got the idea to do a xmas eve hamper. I don't feel it detracts in any way from xmas as it only contains items that I want mine to do on xmas eve - so new pjs (I bought my dd her 1st onsie pjs yesterday) and maybe a dvd to watch with hot choc sachets.
As a young child I wasn't very girly either. I had a famyard with animals and a garage with various cars including a transporter. Later on I had dolls, pram and pretend household items. Then tricycle, bike, scooter. My own dd has always adored dressing up, craft items and cuddly toys.0 -
At 3 and 5 they will probably have very little idea what things cost - so a big pile of fun presents (which can all be cheap) is great. You could save the difference of what you thought you might spend for when they are older and might want more expensive things or to 'top up' later in the year. If you really want to spend on them now - do they both have bikes/scooters and a trampoline - a bit out of season, but definately a big present and will be there for better weather.
For years our little ones favourite thing was always a 50p stocking filler (ignoring the much more expensive gifts!). So we learned just to focus on cheaper, thoughtful things. Now at 10 years old she still doesn't really ask for much (although wouldn't say no to an iPad, but knows that's just not realistic as we don't even have one as adults!) - can make it more of a shopping challenge but feels nice that she isn't growing up too materialistic.0 -
Slightly off-topic but I just wanted to say that I love elefun! My sister and I (37 & 33) often play it. My niece isn't so interested anymore (she's 10) but the grown-ups have a great time

I'll echo what somebody on here (Balletshoes!) said to me when I was looking for presents for girls of similar ages, 'I've never known a girl yet that didn't like a handbag'!
Me :j As the first girl in the family I was given all the "house wife-training" toys which rapidly grew dust and were thankfully passed to charity :T
I'd go with lego, fuzzy felt, craft stuff, books etc etc0
