Hello,
My sister is thinking of buying a netbook, she would like a laptop but we dont think she can afford one for her approx £200 budget, so we have been looking at netbooks.
We have no idea about computers and all she wants to be able to do is look things up on the internet. Which of these would be most suitable?

Other suggestions welcome. Thanks

Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

If she is really stuck at £200, she can get this Toshiba Satellite C660 and stick some more RAM in, costing £8 to bring it up to spec.
2 GB £8.39
4 GB £14.270 -
There's a laptop (def not a netbook!) listed here for £229 delivered so you might be in luck!

NB looks like a decent model and spec also. A Toshiba Satellite L450D-12X,0 -

If it's just for a bit of web browsing what about a cheap refurbished laptop off eBay? Lots of them for under £100.0

Awesome, you guys are great.
I am going for the laptop.
How easy is the ram to install? Do I pay someone to do it or can i go DIY?Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0 -
Easy to add the RAM yourself. There will usually be a little flap on the back you just screw off and pop it in. I upgraded the RAM when I bought my last Netbook.0

It will take you two minutes. If it takes you longer, you probably will have fallen asleep in between.
Video Guide
Don't try to use it without the RAM upgrade, as you will send it back immediately for being too slow.
If you decide to send it back under DSR or under the warranty, remove the RAM and keep it with you.
Full model details here: Toshiba SATELLITE C660-2E1
Once you have purchased and fitted the RAM, come back and we'll advise how to uninstall the McAfee antivirus and some of the other nonsense that will slow the machine down.0 -
I bought a 10.1'' netbook off ebay. 2nd time lucky. Unfortunately, I realised that I absolutely HATED the small screen!!!!!! I resold it (on ebay) and I'm looking to buy a 15.6'' laptop. I've been trawling through Amazon and Techradar reviews, and though I'm still looking to purchase a laptop, I've learnt a couple of things.
1. Check the reviews for the laptop you are interested in on Amzon.co.uk and Amazon.Com.
2. HP laptops have a heat problem. Apparently they get VERY HOT.
3. Lenevo (?) are German based. If you have problems with them their customer service is AWFUL.
Goodluck.:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -

there are certain older models that have a gpu problem, it doesn't apply to all hp laptops, some of them are still decent enough for the money, it's all about doing your researchTrillionaire wrote: »3. Lenevo (?) are German based. If you have problems with them their customer service is AWFUL.
really? I thought lenovo had a decent reputation for selling good quality machines these days - never heard of them being german based either (although I do vaguely remember there was talk of them buying a german company a while back)
op, you made a good choice avoiding the netbook - have one that is currently levelling my drawing board, the small size is at least useful for something! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
