forgot to say I 'd definitely come to all your houses on Christmas day - sounds like everyone is being spoiled, and you're all so well organised - put me to shame0

Mmmm love bubble and squeak. Just use all the left over potatoes, sprouts, cabbage any veg you have, mash or chop it all up and fry it until crispy. I normally use sprouts, cabbage and its yummy with runner beans too. I serve with crispy bacon, fried egg and pickles.

Thanks candjsmum. Do you need to add something to bind it all together, like egg, or does it work in the same way as fish cakes- the mash holds it together?0 -
I just use the potato to hold it together
So delicious, I alternate between making a giant pancake of it and then slicing it like a pizza, and making little individual round ones. There's more crispy edge on the small ones but it's more of a faff.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Can I join in please and drool about all the lovely menus. This will be my second Christmas dinner I'm cooking so not as experienced as some of you but already your giving me loads of ideas.
I'm going to sit and surf/jot down ideas later but for now I have a couple of queries..
Bucks Fizz - Never tried it but always wanted to, do you buy it ready made or can you mix champagne and orage juice for the same effect?
Bubble and Squeak - Can you use other veg rather than cabbage? and what sort of oil do you fry it with.
Also I made 2 christmas pudding last year as baking is about the only cooking I'm not bad at, we ate one of them and the other one has been in my fridge ever since, it's become a bit of a joke. It's sat there in a pudding basin with a layer of greaseproof, then a layer of foil and it's tied round with string. This was a clean layer I put on after I made it and before putting it in the fridge.
Now I'm scared to say it will be fine to eat this year but will it really? There's booze in it so it should be preserved?
I'm too scared to take it out and have a look but should I check or do anything to it?
I'd be really grateful for any advice...0 -
I presume the B-A-S can be made with any veg you have to hand (if we have any left over, lol)!?
Ostaragirl- bucks fizz, i just buy a bottle of it from the SM. Very lazy i know, but since i am on a budget, it would cost me too much to buy champagne, when a bottle of bucks fizz is only a couple of quid from the SM. Mind you, i am the only adult, so not much alcohol gets consumed! I allow the kids a little sip with their lunch (they are 8 and 12).0 -
I use whatever veg there are to hand (normally potatoes, sprouts, chopped carrots and if there are any chestnuts left I chop them super finely and in they go). I make extra sprouts and potatoes though to make sure there's predominantly green veg and potatoes in it.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Christmas Eve for us is usually party food (carpet picnic).
Christmas Day breakfast will be bacon butties for me and OH and pop tarts for DS.
Christmas Dinner (about 2/3pm)
Turkey
Ham
Roasties
Mash
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Yorkshire puds
Various veg
Gravy/sauces
Then pudding will be Xmas pud if and when we fancy it.
Normally not hungry for the rest of the day but there will be PLENTY of food in to snack on if we are.0 -

That's settled then I'll buy some when I see it on the go. I fancy some bubble and squeak now lol0 -
