Well this IS my fave topic!

We have both by other halfs sister and her husband stopping Xmas and xmas eve. His second sister is also stopping both night but her partner is coming after christmas dinner and stopping Christmas night. My family are coming for dinner boxing day at ours and I am cooking Christmas dinner for 7 up at the in laws!

    Christmas Eve:
    6 of us
Unsure of this yet but either something simple or get Sister 1 to make a nice curry.

    Christmas Morn:
    Bucks Fizz
    Duck eggs and soldiers,
smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagles
    bacon egg bagles.

    Christmas Lunch:

    Prawn cocktail

Turkey (Partners Father in charge of this)
    Mashed potatoe
    Mashed carrot and suede
    Roast potatoes
    Roasted carrots and parsnips
Cranberry and chestnut sausage meat stuffing
    Pigs in blankets
    Figs in blankets (amazing)
    Peas with bacon and chestnuts
    Carrots
    Greens
    Braised red cabbage

    Christmas pudding

    Christmas night:

    Left overs and rolls
    Cheese board
    Triffle

    Boxing Day:
Breakfast: Bacon and Egg Muffins/ door step sandwhiches

Probably no lunch as will be waving one set of rellations off and getting ready for another set.

    Dinner

    Homemade soup

    Rib of beef
    Mashed potatoe
    Yorshire Pudding
    Roast potatoes
    Mashed potatoe
    Leeks
    Carrots
    peas
    Pigs in blankets
    figs in blankets
    Roast veg

    Christmas pudding ice cream
    Cheese board

When written like this it seems an silly amount of food but I LOVE bubble and squeek.

I work every thing out and make massive lists. Anything that can be made ahead will be and things that will be eaten for both get made up in one go.

This recipe changes every time I make it but it always seems to turn out nice
    Here goes:
    1 pack of chicken livers
    lots of butter
    black pepper
1 shallot (or half an onion) chopped
    cream
    thyme
    Gin

    1) Melt the butter (I use about 50g) in a large pan and add the shallot/onion. Fry over a low heat for 5-10mins
    2) Add the chicken livers, lots of black pepper and a sprig of thyme. Fry until the chicken livers are cooked through
    3) Add 2 - 3 capfuls of gin to the mix and cook for a further 5 - 10 mins
    4) Take the pan off the heat and add some cream. The amount you need varies every time so add about 100ml to start with. You can always add more
    5) Blend with a hand blender until you have a smooth consistency. Add more cream if necessary.
    6) Chill until set

You can also add white wine if you have no gin although you need slightly more.
  • Thought I'd be nosy and see what you all eat as I only do Christmas eve at home and my mother cooks on christmas day.

Then I see talk of eating Reindeer !!!:eek::eek:

That isn't very festive of any of you :naughty:

    :D
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

I won't be eating reindeer at Christmas, although I suspect they would be delicious.

Thank you for the recipe madvixen - sounds yummy. I always think of pate as something involving something incredibly complex and possibly Heston Blumenthal, but it seems absolutely doable :)

it just the 6 of us for xmas. hubby and i and our 4 children. We have our xmas roast on xmas eve. as xmas day is so hectic with opening pressies i don't wanna be in kitchen cooking a dinner missing out on the fun.

so we have a full works roastie dinner. useally beef and chicken. but definatly beef. veggies are whatever is in season. with pigs in blankets, yorkies, stuffing, roasties and gravy .

then pudding is whatever the children have chosen . no one like xmas pudding apart from me , so i don't buy it.

then xmas day we awake to have hot roast pork sandwiches. and then i put a buffet out about 1 and they can nibble through the day as and when they want.

boxing day will either be another roast or a buffet depending on what we have left over. if i have lots of chicken then i turn it into a chicken pie, beef i will slice in gravy for a roast .

As long as were all together and having fun thats most importnt then we just muddle along with the food.x

We've never done anything special on Christmas Eve foodwise, just normal dinner/supper.

Christmas morning - Bucks Fizz, Bucks Fizz and Bucks Fizz for me, normal breakfast for DH & DS2 (adult). Oh & did I mention Bucks Fizz? ;)

    Christmas dinner - DH, DS2, me & DD2 & DGS1 and probably DD1,DS-i-L, DGD2 & DGS2
No starter - we've all been stuffing chocolate all morning ;)
Roast turkey, sausages, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts (yuk!), carrots, mashed swede, sweetcorn, peas, roast parsnips, sage & onion stuffing, gravy, rolls & butter.
Both DDs are veggies, but don't like nut roasts so they just tend to eat extra veg. I may cook some Quorn sausages for them if they want.

Christmas pudding, mince pies and apple crumble and custard/cream. Viennetta for DS2 (family tradition started by my Mum before he was born!) and whoever else wants some.

DS1, DD-i-L & DGD 1 & 2 come over in the afternoon after having dinner with her parents.

    Tea/supper
Buffet with cold turkey, ham, beef & pork (cooked on Christmas Eve) and salad stuff. Served with rolls & butter.
Christmas cake, either snowman cake (vanilla sponge made in 2 different sized Pyrex bowls, then covered in white icing & decorated) or Christmas pudding cake (chocolate sponge made in Pyrex bowl, covered in chocolate butter cream and chocolate drops to look like a Christmas pudding) or chocolate log (round chocolate sponge cake sandwiched together & covered with chocolate buttercream with chocolate flakes around the edge to look like bark). Trifle.

    Boxing Day
My brother, sis-in-law & 2 (adult) nieces come over about noon as well as our children & grandchildren & girlfriends/boyfriends.
    Lunch
Cold meats & pickles, hot sausages, bubble & squeak, jacket potatoes, baked beans (especially for nieces!), salad.
Gigantic apple crumble (it has to feed at least 20:eek:), Christmas pudding, mince pies, custard/cream/ice cream.

    Buffet supper
Same as Christmas day, but just for more people!

For those of you who use leftovers to make bubble and squeak- how do you make bubble and squeak? I know that sounds silly, but i have never made it!

Hi LV Sue - my daughter and I are veggie and while the boys happily scoff down on their meat we like quorn crispy fillets in the meat shaped hole with bisto onion gravy. Just a thought (I get mine in tesco) :)
