Best broadband and landlines deals

Just moving to a new flat and looking what the best broadband and landlines deals are. Not done this myself before as I've been in a shared house.
I am really just going to be using it for surfing and streaming movies, netflix, YouTube, BBC iplayer etc... So need it to be unlimited and fairly fast to stream these smoothly, but don't need it super fast to watch in hd or anything.
Tesco broadband seems like a good deal, but heard it is pretty poor. So is there anything else out there that is a good deal and decent service. I'm with Tesco mobile and not had any problems so I would think the broadband would be ok with them?
Also how long will it take to get set up? I don't get why they need to send an engineer round to plug a router in!?

Hi Seabass,
Try Uswitch.com - just type in your postcode and that will give you a long list of B/B providers and links to their websites. Sometimes, special deals are on offer, too. Good luck.0 -
Broadband is exchange specific. Do an exchange search on Samknows to find yours. Look for the list of LLU operators as these will be the cheapest, and select from one of them. I have Sky Unlimited LLU and Talk, Its £10 / month + line rental, less £2.50 if you are a TV subscriber. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

TalkTalk are cheap, speeds are good, customer service & tech support are idiots though, line rental £9.50 paid 12 months in advance http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/broadband/essentials
Orange is the next cheapest and will be providing Fibre soon (BT Infinity footprint it is thought) https://broadband.orange.co.uk/homeSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Tesco are currently offering free broadband for 12 months for existing customers, you just pay the line rental of 13.75 a month. So works out £165 for 12 months. Talk talk is slightly cheaper over a 12 months if you pay upfront the line rental comes to 162.75, Think there is some cash back on this for both of these too on quidco.
Both seem to get pretty poor customer ratings, but I know tesco and not had many problems with them so might go with them.
The only annoying thing is it's asking me for my current land line number when i go to set it up on line, and i don't have one as that's why i'm doing it!
The carphone warehouse was trying to push talk talk on me, i didn't realise that they had some relation to the company until i got home and googled it, thought it seemed a bit odd how they were raving about it. They also tried to offer me an "amazing" deal that was about to expire soon, if i bought a smart phone, and the deal was worse than the one on line.0
