I like achieving things Artha , but more in a slower old fashioned way and preferably on a Tuesday .

My chore today is painting (or making it look like I've started) the bathroom ,some kind soul fixed the wall whilst we were away and now it's all ready to be finished off .
I think I'll have to have a sit down and a cuppa first as my heart is racing with excitement .

Polly put the kettle on .

Know what you mean fourp. Just returned from my morning shop and catching up with news on the TV and here. I'll just have another cup of coffee, write a couple of pms and then start thinking about giving the garage a long needed sort out after the renovations.(Hopefully to create some space for bargain stashes when they come along:rotfl:)

Yes my Dad set up something in his will when my mum died but the law changed inbetween.

So after he decided to live permentley in the home at the end of last year I went to his solicitor - they give you the 1st half hour free and I discussed everything with her.

What I have now is called "General power of attorney under the Power of Attorney act 1971" which is basically just a letter with my Dads and my details on (my sisters are stand in incase I get run over by a bus) Its signed by my Dad and witnessed.

The bank, building society, utilities, estate agent etc have all had copies of this letter so I can act for my Dad.

In total it cost £185 but the solicitor said it was by far the easiest solution and far cheaper than if we left it until my Dad was no longer capable when it would need to go to court

    Morning all,

Just catching up but wanted to say unfortunately people can no longer apply for "Enduring power of attorney". Been the case for a few years now. Those already set up are fine and can be put into action. I was lucky as got one set up for mum few years ago.

There is something similar but costs a lot more to set up (cost has gone down a bit recently) it is called "Lasting power of attorney", there are 2 types welfare or financial. Or you can become an appointee/deputy through the court of protection but you have to apply to the court everytime something needs doing and this occurrs a fee each time.

For someone who still has capacity at the moment "Lasting power of attorney" is the best plan of action.

I got this information from my OH as he had to deal with this sort of thing a lot in his line of work but it is only an outline as he is not a solicitor. HTHs

How the ASDA Price Guarantee £5 off £40 bonus works

    There are 3 simple steps:
    1. Spend £40 or more* on your Asda shop between 15th October 2012 and 4th November 2012
    http://www.asdapriceguarantee.co.uk/Administration/Bonus-Details.aspx

I didn't do APG the last time Asda ran this, but can I ask is the £5 seperate and in addition to whatever APG you get? I was thinking about planning a £15 apg + £5 voucher = £20 off my next shop. Or is it all together and would be capped at £15 instead?

    It's only a game

Good question, I think that would be Ok, hand over £5 one first and then APG - £20 off a £40 shop is good. Maybe a few items with MOCs as well - Greens, Beans, Baxters soup ....can anyone think of anything else?

Ideally you need a list to give you another £15 APG for the next shop.

Just been on the news about a big house fire in Harlow Essex sadly people were killed

Thankfully I am nowhere near here ( I mean in term of the fire) and thankfully nobody was hurt in the fire across the road from me too, but it is very sad about the fire in essex made me think that the one her could have been a whole lot worse and what's loosing a night sleep and a few hours electricity when people could have died, really puts it in perspective
It's the thought that counts.......I think a lot!
