Another switcher here from British Gas Online Energy. I also went with the 2 winters £60 lock-in as likewise I can't see it coming down.

Quidco too for £40 back, but lets see if quidco tracks this time as I've had to raise claims for nearly all cashbacks recently.

I will miss the Energy Smart with British Gas, paying for what you used that month was great. Saved waiting for any rebates from un-realistic fixed DDs. But to save roughly £300 a year I can put up with fixed DDs again.

Monthly readings online from First Utility sounds like they will closely monitor what you pay anyway.
  • When I completed my application on energyhelpline.com on Saturday 13th October I received an email acknowedging my application.

Since then nothing, has anyone else had any communication from First Utility, or know when to expect something?

My Quidco tracked overnight after I applied
  • I just came here to see if anyone else had any dealings with them?

I have read some much less than favourable reviews of them on trustedpilot: http://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.first-utility.com

A couple of 1 star reviews I would expect, but they out number the positive reviews by about 5 to 1. That said I know people are more likely to post negative reviews when things go wrong rather than positive things when things go as they should.

This site is heavily promoting FU at the moment, but they seem beyond useless should anything go wrong.

I would be interested in hearing peoples opinions of them.
  • Npower have just hiked my monthly dd by £18, but according to moneysupermarket I can save around £160 per year with FU. Or in other words stay pretty much as I have been up to now.

The only problem is I am on npowers spreading warmth tariff, which is indefinite, and I also get £90 annual cashback on my boiler care through having dual fuel with npower.

Weighing it up I will will probably stick, but it seems incredible than FU can still offer this much of a saving.

Have they yet to make an announcement re a price increase?

As of yet not tracked, but will give it the 3 days as normal. Seems to be every time on different machines too?

I too have read all the poor reviews but I can put up with a bit of pain for a £300 saving.

It's like most companies these days if you don't have to speak to them it will probably be fine, but once Customer Services are involved it is normally a pain.

Hi, I've been with First Utility since February 2012 and really like them. You don't get much communication from them, but I have sorted out a couple of issues quite straightforwardly by email and by their chat feature on the website. I have just switched from my current fixed tariff to their March 2014 fixed with no penalties - they will start the new tariff from the start of next month.

I like the way they get you to provide a meter reading each month - I have got into the routine of doing this and it is really helping me to cut down on my energy use - when we have had a higher use month we have tried to work out why and cut down the following month.

I have also switched from a standard monthly direct debit to actually paying for what I have used. I was getting into credit on my account which seemed pointless to me - I would rather have the money in my bank account.

I hope this helps; the account is completely managed online - I get email reminders to read the meters, and then get emailed a link to a PDF of my monthly bill.

So far a really positive experience; much better than Scottish Power who I had great difficulty trying to leave before.

Mega bonus, I am moving from British Gas Energy Smart and love this feature so will be pressing for this as soon as I am setup. Although British Gas do make it very easy as you input your readings via their phone App.

We have just left First Utility and really have nothing good to say about them.
We moved to them in June, it took until September for them to sort our Electricity bill out even after sending them all the required readings.
They informed us that they were changing our tariff in August to a more expensive one. We then looked around to see where we would be better off.
Moved to a different supplier on September 19th, First Utility still took a payment from our bank account on the September 28th even though we were in credit. It took them until October 8th to get our final bill sorted out.Today we received a payment from them of £135.87 which was £53.38 less than we were due. I called them straight away to find out why the full amount hadn't been paid only to be told 'I don't know why this has happened, but I will mark this to be repayed to you immediately' Immediately to them is 15 days and it will be by cheque as they had cancelled the DD mandate we ad with them.
