I'm guilty in that a few times I have left chocolate where my Darcey dog could get it-then it's straight to the vets for apomorphine to make her vomit. Worse was when I came home to find half a container of cocoa powder gone, and didn't know which of 5 dogs it was. All had to go to the vets, who gave them all apomorphine, but then had to get back to an emergency, so I was left with a big roll of paper towels and 5 vomiting dogs. (dont worry, they only left me because they knew I wouldnt mind). Sure enough one brought up all of the powder. 5 vomiting dogs is not the most pleasurable experience, but better than losing one to heart failure.

I am thrilled ours have never stolen chocolate....BUT, in the days before we knew chocolate was so bad for dogs my mother used to give a pet dog a chocolate biscuit every day. Like then occasional person who reaches their hundredth birthday on a lifestyle which includes alcohol and cigarettes, it didn't hold that dog back (it held the record for reaching the second oldest recorded dog of that breed).

That btw, is not a suggestion it's ok to ignore if your dog nicks chocolate.

lostinrates I'm the same in that my old greyhound (the stray we thought was a jack russel when we found him as a teeny pup) once nicked 3 large blocks of cooking chocolate in the days before I knew about chocolate and dogs. He wasn't in the slightest bit affected.

Since then I've seen a beloved family pet die because it had broken open and eaten a box of chocolates under the Xmas tree. The owners were devasted- it was a harsh lesson for them to learn that chocolate can be a killer. Xmas must have been c**p for them that year, and possibly ruined for ever.

I once couldn't find Ol Orbit...looked everywhere then went into the kitchen...opened the fridge door to see him sitting on one of the shelves munching on the meat I'd bought that morning from the butchers...between 'Meowws; of "let me out!"...

i've been lucky, none of my cats are or have been food thieves in that they have taken food off a counter, shopping bag of off my plate.

My old Sugarcat once nicked some crisps from a bowl which i had put non a chair.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

  • my cats never used to go on the worktops then one day they were both up there trying to eat a bag of defrosting lambchops:o
worst offender now is my daughters cat georgia, one day she did a flying leap across my bed, nicked a curry chip and bounded back off:eek: i confess i did have an evil chucklethinkin of those hot spices but she seemed to love it!
