Ive got an old sixpence for my daughter for her wedding next Saturday, this thread came just in time.
No coke but I'll try the vinegar first.
If its a silver sixpence then toothpaste is good, use an old toothbrush though.I use to do a fair bit of metal detecting and used toothpaste on silver coins and electrolysis on copper/Bronze coins of low value.0 -

I've got magnetic sheets of some kind, so I'm just planning on gluing them on, then cutting them out after they've dried. Whether this works, we'll find out!
