Ive got an old sixpence for my daughter for her wedding next Saturday, this thread came just in time.

No coke but I'll try the vinegar first.

If its a silver sixpence then toothpaste is good, use an old toothbrush though.I use to do a fair bit of metal detecting and used toothpaste on silver coins and electrolysis on copper/Bronze coins of low value.

I think the product name you have been searching for is Cilit Bang!!!!

But as others have said, cola would be a suitable alternative.

Once you've cleaned the coins what do you do to make them into magnets ?

I've got magnetic sheets of some kind, so I'm just planning on gluing them on, then cutting them out after they've dried. Whether this works, we'll find out! :D

I remember using coke...or probably cola as a child to shine up pennies and it worked a treat...

    Which Jersey/Guernsey coins?

Living in Jersey, I could probably get you shiny new coins (as long as it's not too much value, or rare commerative coins) if the other suggestions don't work.
