It is sensible to sign on immediately even though no JSA may be paid as your NI will be paid.0

I signed on the week after I was medically retired. Left it a week as I had a week booked in Tenerife. And that included 9 weeks of PILON. Nothing was said and I received CB JSA. Don't know if it's the same for redundancy.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

That will be a wasted trip you now have to make your claim over the telephone or online, the Jobcentre will not be able to help you.
