question re PILON and signing on

Hi i have a question re recieving notice and signing on
when would i have to go to the job centre if i am made redundant at the end of november and get 12 weeks notice?
am i right in thinking the notice is taxed so would have paid NI on it, surely i couldnt get any benefits until after 12 weeks ?
is it good practise to let tax credits know as soon as im made unemployed or after 12 weeks?
soooo confused!

you sign on as soon as you are terminated. you do not have to wait for the equivilent notice period if PILON is given.

thanks
i was a little confused as i thought the pilon was treat as wages which would mean i would still be in effect being payed when signing on...seems odd!0 -

I beg to differ.
As you got PILON you have to wait for that period to be up before claiming any benefits.0 -

I am in this position and I asked at the job centre on Tuesday. I was told that I could sign on but PILON would be deducted from JSA until the period that it was being paid for expired.
I am probably going to cancel my claim and reclaim from the time that I am actually unemployed.December 2010 wins - 12 month Four Four Two subscription; Alcatel OT 708 phone; Miffy cuddly toy; Nivea gift pack0 -
It used to be that you had to wait but that changed ages ago(ages as in years I think 2007).
JSA is payable if you are available and looking for work.
PILON is treated as capital for JSA and not income.

PILON is payment in lieu of notice s you either work the notice and get terminated or you get terminated and get paid the notice so it won't affect your sign off. They may look at your redundancy package though.0

Oh blimey. The person I saw at the job centre was worse than I thought. I think everything she told me was wrong!
Sorry, I was given incorrect information about PILON then and perhaps I won't cancel my claim after all. I'm in a slightly strange situation in that both me and my colleague were put on notice of redundancy last Tuesday; we've both now been made redundant but don't have it in writing (!); she left the company on Wednesday and I haven't been given my end date yet.
