Can anyone tell me why I'm not able to thank anyone via the button provided and also can't view who has thanked who? I also can't use the smileys.
It's infuriating not being able to thank those who have taken time to help me.
When I press the thanks button, it just takes me back to the top of the page and nothing happens.

There have been some glitches recently. I will move this to the thisisite questions board where someone who knows might read it and reply.0

These issues you are experiencing with the Thanks addon, are due to cache. Please try clearing all your old internet files and cookies, and see if that solves the issue.
You can check if it's a cache issue simply by installing a second browser (that you currently do not use) such as firefox or opera and see if it works there, as they will have their own fresh cache.
Sorry for any inconveniences you are experiencing,
Kind regards,

I experienced exactly the same problems as you are and tried absolutely everything that the forum members suggested.
The only thing that worked for me was to install another browser.
I downloaded firefox, and now whenever I use the MSE website/forums, I always access it through firefox. This has solved the problem.
Give it a go. I am really not a "techie" but I managed it without any problems.
Good Luck;)If only I knew then what I know now0 -
I've just got m'new PC and on this one the whole forum can show up in Times New Roman and it looks rubbish. Not all the time though.
Also when clicking thanks I can only click one at a time whereas on my laptop I can just go through a thread and clicketyclick away without having to wait for each one to disappear before moving onto the next.
Not sure why this is happening - I'm using Ccleaner to clear the cache if that helps?Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

I have exactly the same problem. When I try to Thank people, show users who have given thanks, or click the smilies, nothing happens but to move me to the top of the page. I have tried this in Firefox and it works.
The fact that several people using IE have got this problem and it's fairly recent - last week or so I think - suggests it's not just user settings. I know I haven't changed any IE settings in the last couple of weeks.
It looks like it's a JavaScript error. IE is telling me the following:
The current page contains 7 script error(s).
Line: 1281
Char: 24
Code: 0
Error: Unterminated comment
I'm getting similar errors throughout the MSE Forum pages.0 -

Have you downloaded Microsoft updates for your computer ??
I get same problem on Pc with brand new Windows XP installation, but with no updates downloaded. Think problem may be related to that.

Try downloading this Java update - I tried it and thanks seems to be working... for now :silenced:

It shouldn't be Java that needs updating. No applets are used; it looks like a JavaScript coding error which IE is susceptible to but not Firefox. Also, I have the latest Java RTE, and run several Java applets and programs successfully.
My version of XP has no updates, but then, it didn't 2 - 3 weeks ago either, and everything was working fine then. It definitely points to a website coding change within the last couple of weeks.0
