Any time I've been in a PCWorld or Currys recently, I have to say I've been impressed- they've been refurbishing them and all seem to have a good display of tablets, if you haven't been recently go back and have a look, and see if you can find a refurbed one.
  • I am slowly warming-up to the Nexus 7 and with the possibility that a 32GB is on its way things are getting brighter. Or is it?

I don't know why i am not convinced with the overall "build & quality" of it and the speakers issue and all other issues.

    4. There is a display but its not connected to the wifi hence you are not able to fully test it. Believe me...i have tried and i've checked. Maybe my best bet is Tottenham Court Road.

I wish I had tried the Nexus 7 with a few of my favourite websites before I bought, the screen proved too small for me.

I returned it and have since got a Macbook air. This time I used the wifi hotspot on my phone to connect a display model to the internet for some real life testing.

  • - my N7 has always from day one connected anywhere in the big round world to my huawei e586e
    - my N7 costs under £200, a Macbook air costs £800-£1200
    - I can buy between 5 and 9 N7s for the price of one Macbook air
    - a tablet is a tablet is a tablet. they both do the same thing, its just that one costs 700% more than the other

On the eyesight issue basill is correct anything you can't use / see at any price is worth zero ! I know so many people of a certain age who dumped their 7 incher shortly after purchase for a 10 incher they could comfortably use.

    Hi Richie,
I preordered the N7 and the only reason it went back was my eyesight is not good enough for a 7" screen.

I did not intend to compare the N7 with the MBA, they are totally different beasts.

It was a luxury, but for me the MBA does replace a NC10 netbook, almost completely replaces my desktop and now I don`t want a tablet anymore either :-)

  • Nook and Kindle HD's worth a look too :)

My 7" Nook color is fab but might let my daughter have that & upgrade to a HD version myself ;)

  • Like i said previously i am not looking for a Nook or a Kindle as their OS is too overlayed with their own company's UI and if you are used to Google services such as Maps, Mail, Translate, Currents, etc. then those tablets are not for you.

Those chinese-made tabs are slowly making a noise and a name for themselves. They always try and outdo each other and outdo the Nexus 7 with equivalent or slightly better specs. But again, questions on build quality, updates, warranty, customer support, being "disposable" are still there.

I still think there are issues with the Nexus 7. Screen a tad smaller, screen issues, mono speaker, etc. Google said they are aware of the issues but until we see a really high quality, well-build, well-spec tablet then i might just hold off for a few more weeks.

10inch and 7inch are the best sizes for a tablet, anything bigger than 10inch is too big to properly carry around, 7inch is still big enough to be comfortable to use as a tablet but is small enough to be able to fit in a normal suit jacket.

Anything inbetween is a waste it's not as usable as a 10inch and cannot be pocketed like a 7inch therefore if you have to carry it round in a bag you may as well get a 10inch tablet.

It actually has stereo speakers - although they're placed so close to each other under the speaker grille it's hard to tell unless you get your nose up really close.

    But definitely stereo.
