Try Settings-Apps-All-Google Services Framework..Click on this and clear the cache.
Then go to About Tablet and check again for the update,,you may need to do this a few times.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Ok between the choices i mentioned in the first paragraph when it comes to build quality and speakers sound which one at the moment would you put your trust....Acer/Google, Samsung or Motorola?
it is ASUS/ GOOGLE !!!!!!!!!!!
Samsung(i assume you refer to tab 2 7") / motorola (I assume you refer to Xoom 2 8.2") are slower than nexus 7.
None of the speakers are good enough IMO. You will need to invest in bluetooth speakers if you want good sound quality.0 -

I was very pleasantly surprised by the sound quality from the speakers on my Samsung Tab 2 7.0, and the expandable memory vs the Nexus made it a clear winner for me.
Might want to see how easy it is to 'root' the Nexus (I have no idea). It was very straight forward on the Samsung, and is almost essential for running some of the more powerful apps from the app store.Legal team on standby0 -
Should that be 4.1.2. Mine updated a week or so ago to that and says it's up to date. Fiddling around hasn't brought on another update. I just uninstalled the Rotate app I put on it originally and my home screen still rotates OK.0

it's VERY easy to root the Nexus 7
But you wipe the entire device back to stock (including the "virtual" sdcard where you store all your information, Nothing is saved!)
You can get get scripts to do it for you but all it is is a single command you need to run and it's unlocked!Laters
