Leaving Orange Broadband....Help please!

I took advantage of Talk Talk offer posted on this site and decided to leave Orange as they were changing my "free" package anyway. I asked Talk Talk if I needed to get a MAC code but was told they didnt need one and could do the changeover without it, so I proceeded with the move. I couldn't find anything on the Orange site about how to notify them if you were leaving them ( surprise surprise) so I emailed them and told them I was leaving and when my "go live" date would be (2 weeks later). I received an acknowledgement from them but no further reply, so after going live with Talk Talk I emailed Orange again asking them to confirm that they knew I had left. They replied, saying that I wasnt allowed to leave without a MAC code and that I had to give 14 days notice in writing. They are trying to charge me a fee of £29+ for leaving without the code and won't accept my original email as my notice of leaving. I have explained that their failure to respond to my original email is not my fault and that I am not paying any fees. I was not trying to leave within a contracted period but who is at fault here.. is it Talk Talk for telling me I didnt need a MAC code or are Orange just being awkward? Is there anything I can do to avoid paying this "fee"?

just the start talktalk is....... and it will get worse
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

They did the very same thing with me.

They were happy to begin with were in the process of providing the MAC, i was waiting for it via email, until Sky,who then said they didn't actually need the MAC code, proceeded and set up our new BB 2 days prior to me phoning Orange. Orange basically told me that because Sky had jumped the gun and set up the new BB, they were going to charge me £29. When I asked how they could possible justify charging me for leaving their service to which they had already served me notice for,via the end of service letter that they have sent everyone.

There only answer was that it was because they did not like the way Sky had jumped in and set up their own BB.

So basically they wanted to charge £29 because I refused to stick with Orange and that it annoyed them. Anyway that was 4 weeks ago, I have heard nothing further from Orange. I am enjoying a great Sky Unlimited BB service.

Incidentally Sky credited me with £29 on my account after i contacted them to tell them that I could not obtain the MAC code and that Orange intended to charge me £29 for it

    Thank you Sky
  • I've started the process to move to Talk Talk and asked Orange for my MAC Code. They supplied it within 24 hours but so far Talk Talk have not asked for it. The Talk Talk website says that they will ask for it only if they require it.

Orange know very well why I'm leaving and if they come looking for money from me they can go and !!!!!!

I'll provide update if the situation changes.

A number of my family are with Talk Talk and their experience of the company has been very positive.

Tell Orange you want the £29 written off or refunded - they told you to leave them.
