It would not have occurred to me that stamps could be bought for any less price than the one decided on by Royal Mail.

That's a terrible admission from someone who uses this site as much as you.
That's what this site is all about, telling others what they could be getting cheaper. As you will have seen retailers are even selling cutprice stamps.
If we don't continue learning as we live we would all become very dull.

Now who can tell us where we can get cut-price banknotes?

If you want 'free' stamps then have a look at the following site

    https://rmselfrecruit.research-int.com/Questionnaire/qstIntroductionPrivate.aspx

I did this for about 6 months and now have about £150's worth of stamps for very little work. I also won £10 in their weekly prize draw.

mc is a little older than me, but I am sure when I was young, you could only buy stamps at the Post Office, at face value, and that continued after I'd started work.

And I'm sure it was possible to buy books of stamps elsewhere long before I registered that they were available there, and even now it would take a conscious effort on my part to think "Oh, I need stamps, I can get them in the supermarket / corner shop / chemist".

And I'm equally sure that there are all kinds of savings to be made which it just doesn't occur to me to make: actually that probably includes stamps! I use very few postage stamps (don't send out Christmas cards), so I buy a book a couple of times a year, and they just sit in my purse until I need one. I always buy more just before the prices go up, and that's the extent of my personal savings on stamps.

If that's a terrible admission, so be it.

Actually the next batch of stamps we need for work are likely to come from Royal Mail rather than CostCo, because I haven't got time to go to CostCo to buy them cheap!
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Absolutely right, SavvySue. You put into words what I'd like to say, but you put it so much more clearly and fluently.

I do send Christmas cards, but that's almost all that I do nowadays about Christmas. I tried one year not sending them, but then I got so many, quite a lot of them from people I've known for years and whom I only hear about at this time of year. Apart from going to church, the rest of all the Christmas razzmatazz mainly passes me by.

Waitrose has a PO counter and I went there. Last time I went to get more, they'd run out of books of Christmas stamps so I got some loose ones. Actually Waitrose is very convenient - the PO counter with 4 cashiers is open for the same hours as the supermarket, whereas the PO in the market square closes at midday Saturdays, even though it's in the newsagents which is still open.

  • If I recall they were reduced last year for certain people on certain benefits because of the price increase. This year there was not a price increase on stamps (at least I think this was the case) so therefore it looks like no offer this year...

Personally I am still using up the stamps I bought at 2012 prices before the increase!
  • Nothing this year
