Do we have to be home for a pre-mayment meter to be fitted?

We have an appointment to have a prepayment meter fitted tomorrow from Eon, which is the best way forward for us.
My question is:- do we need to be home when it is fitted? I have the school run to do twice and I'd like to go out for a few hours too but don't want to come home and find the electric off and my freezer defrosted! Will the card/key be posted through the letterbox?
Will obviously give Eon a call first thing but until today I was intending to be home all day so I thought it would be fine.
Thanks in advance!

If the meter is accessible from outside (in a cabinet etc.), then you don't need to be at home.
It's unlikely they would leave the power off, but even if they did, your freezer won't defrost in a couple of hours.0 -
Sorry, but the above is wrong.
Once the meter is changed they will need to run safety checks on the electrics and will need access to the house to do this.0 -

this is correct. a polarity test is requiredDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
They are required to offer 2hr timeslots, they try and keep this quite but if you push them you should be able to get one but it may be too late now.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Jus ring them and arrange something...simplesFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

we always change the meter if its outside and nobody is in...
our letters that get sent state if the meter is outside we can change it without the need for anyone to be present, and we even have cards to that effect to post thru after job, stating sorry we missed you but i have changed your meter anyway as you have an outside box..0 -

Not necessarily.
Could be someone in the house unable to get to the door, relying on medical equipment, you pull the plug and the equipment goes off, and it doesn't automatically re-start on re-energisation.
