Given the continuing appalling customer service EDF provides its customers does anyone know when one stands a good chance of actually getting through to someone without having to wait over 30minutes.

I'm trying to give them money but for some reason they don't want it!!

I called them once on a midweek day at mid-day and got straight through (but the line was appalling)

I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but as it's a freephone number, I just put the phone on speaker and get on with my day.

If you just want to pay them, a quick google shows a number of alternative ways that don't involve calling them at all :)

Saturday mornings, phoned them twice and the options took longer than the human pick up time.

I want to make an extra payment via a debit card not change my payment method of DD. What I do is keep my DD at a reasonably lowish rate then whe the Winter quarter arrives I top up the DD until after the cold weather passes. This method always keeps me in credit.

In that case I would recommend using the "online banking" payment method. Setup an arrangement and test with a token amount. Once proved working make your payment. Payments are recorded to your energy account next working day.

You may find it useful, but not essential, to register for MyAccount.

Sounds good :-) but wouldn't I need some details from EDF like account numbers etc?

    Edit.
I am registered for My Account and have just checked and there is a 'Make a Payment' facility. Would this work if I just wanted to make in addition to my DD a monthly payment of say £40 from now until say next March?

Try between 8.30am - 9.00am, I got straight through then. I do think they have improved.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

    from the link...

Telephone or Internet banking – to pay your gas and electricity bills this way you’ll need our sort code and account number plus your EDF Energy account number. You’ll find the information you need on the back of your gas and electricity bills.

I can confirm the required information can be found on the back of a bill.
