Just been on ebay to check that, and noticed that he's now on 98.9% feedback as someone else has left negative feedback!!! It's made my day, how totally sad am I?! He totally deserves it. whether for this transaction or not, it's karma

If they sell a lot then its amazing what ebay will turn a blind eye to.
I reported 4 sellers, All selling the same banned item.
3 sellers with fairly low scores or not been on ebay for long,
Those items gone within 24 hours.
The other seller, Many items listed and feedback of 20k+,
Item remained. Even though clearly identical to the other listings.
Not a one off either, Happened several times.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Seller confirmed receipt of item immediately. Case was for 'item not recieved' even though imade it very very clear to ebay and seller that i knew the category wasn't correct; it was as near to 'refund not erceived' as i could get! that's why i lost the case. i knew i would, again i made this very clear. it was only to give the seller as much opportunity as possible to refund me before court proceedings. Spoken to ebay loads of times (chat, email, phone and letter to head office in Dublin) and no way ar they prepared to reinstate feedback!! this is why i am so pee'd off)0

I'd like to say I'm surprised but sadly I cannot!! Load of old b0llox. I'd love to just bin ebay off but hey i get loads of bargains and sell all my old stuff too! They have us by the short and curlies for sure.0

If eBay works for you overall then stay with them. There are certain categories I never buy in and some items that are not available elsewhere.
They no longer really have buyers by the short and curlies - there are a lot of websites out there and a lot of choice for consumers. Most shops now have a web presence and many independent and specialist marketplace sites set up each year, though some don't survive. Many businesses that used to sell on eBay have graduated to having their own websites.
For private sellers the choice is more limited, but for example I've found Amazon much more lucrative to sell books and DVDs on this year. I'm letting a lot of my eBay listings lapse because I just can't be bothered paying the fees for the low return I'm getting. Maybe I will try again later on because there are some things I can't sell on Amazon. But if eBay doesn't impress you there is no need to use it."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Re- the feedback thing, I read yesterday somewhere online that ebay is not anymore what it used to be when it started off. It has become a huge company and as every huge company it supports its interests. In this case, its interests lie with the big sellers and big buyers. Big sellers = big commission. So, more likely to see rules bent for them. If you bought from a big seller, very likely they contacted their ebay "hotline" and asked for the negative feedback to be removed, giving their side of the story. I've lost a lot of trust in ebay recently.0

Yes, people have been saying that online pretty much since Ebay started. Of course they're bigger than earlier on and are indeed a big business that looks after their own interests and profits. If the seller was consistently getting negative feedback removed then you may have a point. As it is the OP has stated that other negs have been received, so there could be another reason in this instance.velissaria wrote: »Re- the feedback thing, I read yesterday somewhere online that ebay is not anymore what it used to be when it started off..0 -
eBay is between the devil and the deep blue sea. It has a cohort of buyers who are mucking sellers around and a cohort of sellers who still think they can get money for old rope and don't have to act like a proper business. It makes me a bit of a frustrated panda at times, because most other businesses have the sense to give at least an honest service - not defrauding buyers like the OP, at least.
In between these two extremes are the vast majority of sales and the vast majority of sellers/buyers.
The problem is, eBay have to deal with the first people and make sure their systems are abuse-proof in order to maintain the second, quite comfortable, sector of people in the style to which they have become accustomed. It is a process of trial and error and it seems they continually try to balance the system by over-balancing it at one end and then going to the opposite extreme to correct their mistakes. A few years ago buyer protection was dramatically extended by the introduction of their own dispute system. Now, seller protection has to be able to cope with the people who take obvious advantage of good buyer protection systems. No doubt it will swing the other way for a while, and then eBay will stop the rot for buyers in a different way.
The OP seems to have had a problem with a return going astray and while it's completely unfair and completely reprehensible that the seller has done this, hopefully the fact that other people thought to return tracked means that the seller cannot do the dirty on them and their negs have more sticking power.
Unfortunately eBay do not currently enforce legal rights to return under Distance Selling Regulations (as opposed to returns for not-as-described or refunds for not-as-received) so the seller was canny enough to nix the neg. I find this sad and one more reason not to buy on eBay - if my current purchases weren't anything to go by

Thanks so much for your very useful and insightful information about this silly situation! Wish I didn't use ebay all the time for both buying and selling, but i do, so i'm going to just carry on with extra caution.0
