Can't cancel O2 contract
My daughter has been trying for 2 days to cancel her contract with O2. She phoned customer services(an 0800 number) and was told that she had to ring a different number (an 0870 number) but each time she phones she is told that their system is down and that she will have to ring back.
Does anyone know if it is possible to cancel the contract without ringing this premium rate number?

I was with the o2 online and cancelled by email. I emailed and asked for the pac number once the pac number is used then that will cancel the contract. I had no probs.0 -
Best to contact the switchboard on the number above and ask for retention department.
Just out of interest, how long have you had your contract?
If you are cancelling after a year speak to retention, if you are ceasing within 2 week cooling off period return it to the original place of purchase.
Hope this helps. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It costs nothing and means so much.0 -
^^^you should be fine then in cancelling the contract. What i'd recommend is phoning FIRST thing in the morning (I think their CS department is open from 8.30) as the call centres tend to be alot easier to reach at that time. Anytime after 11 and it goes downhill (pretty much o2 really!!)

I to had problems with 02. However mine was also with The Link. I bought two mobiles on contract and only 4 days later took them back and asked to cancel the contract. The Link failed to cancel and i was subsequently billed. I had 2 bills come though the door and every time i went to The Link they fobbed me of telling me it would be rectified.
6 months on still no end of contract. I took a week of work and was in The Link every day to sort it out as well as calling 02 who couldnt help until The Link followed on with the cancellation form which had been lost i was told. After numorous letters threatening court action, calls to the link,o2 and CAB someone sorted it out for me.
All in all it took over 8 months to cancel my mobiles. I am absolutely appalled at the service i got and have been encouraging friends and family to avoid the link tho its up to each individual who they shop with.
I am back as a PAYG customer on 02...

Get there main address - mark it for the attention of the "canx - retention dept" send it recorded delivery - Then Canx any DD you have by that time you know by checking the royal mail webiste that they have recived it.This has worked for me in the past.
PS: I have sent a copy to the shop as well recorded delivery ok its a couple quid but they can not wiggle of out saying "we did not get it"Tell it as it should be....0 -
Wouldn't recommend cancelling the DD just yet as far as I'm aware you have to give 30 days notice. They should only take money out upto the end of the 30 days from when you sent/phoned them (the 30 day notice period). After this date, then I would cancel the DD otherwise they could be funny and start charging failed DD fees etc as technically you are still in contract). After (approx) a month and a half from the day you gave notice you should be ok to cancel the DD.0

Hi,
If they have passed the 12 months then its a 30 day rolling contract - what my suggestion is send the canx and give it 10 days then - call and advise they memo the account and why you are about to canx the DD ( get the agents name - ext number - call centre location ) If credit control do get fun by that time they have the letter - see the notes on the account - and advise CC that you more then happy to pay and never had any intention NOT to pay but being left with no other options hence my actions taken at costs to me ( sending recoreded delivery letters )Tell it as it should be....0 -
I wanted to cancel my O2 pay monthly phones (had 3 for the family) and move over to PAYG. I found O2 customer service virtually non-existent. I was told various things from I'll just transfer you (4+ times per call) to you need to write in with 30 days notice to cancel.
Instead of waiting 30 days and paying the line rental for the privilege I requested a PAC code. Not so much for moving the existing numbers over to Tesco Mobile, but to end the contracts within around 10 days. PAC code takes 3-5 working days for 02 to generate and the transfer request took 5 working days with Tesco. I cancelled my direct debit once the transfer was completed a few days ago and will call O2 to settle up the final bill over the phone.
This shortcut seems to have worked OK at the moment.0
