WARNING for customers leaving Virgin Media

Just a quick warning for anyone leaving Virgin Media.
I recently left Virgin as I moved to a new area which they don't cover. I had the top TV, broadband and phone package as the cost was split between 6 people. After I left they sent me a final bill which said I was around £120 in credit on the account (I think they charged for an extra month, and then put it as a credit - bit underhand but there's worse).
I expected them to pay this by Direct Debit as that's how I paid my bill, but when nothing came through I rang them and they told me they need to send a cheque and I hadn't given them a forwarding address (which I had, they sent a bag to sent back the equipment in to my new address).
Clearly their policy is to take as much as possible from you at the end of your contract and hope you don't ask for it back. Needless to say, I won't be using Virgin again.

Were you still in minimum term? If not an ETC will be charged against any credit.
Moving to a non-VM area does not void your contract if still in minimum term.
You need to give 30 days notice, and the charges (other than exclusive calls etc) are levied 30 days in advance. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
