Organic food in supermarkets

Anyone else started buying stuff other than presents, for Christmas ?
I absolutely refuse to have anything to do with Christmas until December!!
Last year I wasn't even planning to buy any 'Christmas food' but then I won a Riverford xmas hamper which was a bonus and rather nice food.. Not sure if I will buy any extra food this year - dinner will be home made Mary Berry nut roast and usual veg, hm yorkshire, home grown potatoes etc and will make a Delia recipe for veg 'sausage' rolls but may buy crisps (Kettle, Burt's or Tyrells), chocolate (G&B's) and salted nuts for snacks but that is about it over and above normal food. I don't really eat a lot else different except I tend to snack more.
However, I was just fancying a ploughmans with pickled onions (something I do tend to buy near Christmas). I tend to get the Garner's ones as they seem most traditional and no sulphites iirc. My home grown onions are too big to pickle... Just saw Biona do some organic ones though but not seen them in the shops and none of the org delivery co's or Ocado seem to stock any organic ones. Does anyone else buy pickled onions and if so which brands?
Glad you had a good week, Dozey, I dread new jobs!0 -
:hello: Dozey crow well done you :T when you buy the organic wine please review because I'm not sure anyone has ever done that on the thread and it is sometimes possible to get organic wine on offer.
I've had two types of organic vodka, Sainsburys (currently in my fridge) and another brand I can't currently remember the name but have bought a lot of it in the past, both were nice but can't say I can really taste a difference from any other vodka brand.
I've bought organic wine for my parents but I don't like wine myself so can't comment.. it supposedly doesn't cause the same headaches. I've also given them organic prosecco but again no idea what it was like.0 -
Juniper Green Gin in Sainsbury's is organic and very nice indeed according to the OH.

The Waitrose offer on Green & Black's chocolate ends on 08/10. Normal price at Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Ocado is £2 for a 100g bar. Sainsbury's has them on offer at 1.50 until 24/09 and Ocado at 2 for £3 at the moment.
If you can get to an ASDA, the 100g bars are always 1.50 but while you're there, the ASDA Extra Special Fairtrade Dominican Republic organic 70% cocoa dark chocolate (with or without cocoa nibs but these add a crunchy texture) is only £1 for 100g
Have to say I'm not a fan of Green & Black's chocolate but big fan of the Green & Black's chocolate ice cream - to me it's the most chocolatey ice cream available. OH and mother hooked on it
Sainsbury's sells 500ml for 4.69 , Tesco, Waitrose, Ocado for 4.49. Offers at the moment - Ocado £3, Waitrose 2.24 to 08/10 and Tesco £3 to 14/10. I'd love to stockpile some for Christmas but OH pigs it
Hi Edwardia, yes I will be happy to review the wine.... More than happy to try all the...... HIC...:rotfl: I would be very interested to know where you purchased the wine and prosseco Kiri, please could you let me know.
Thanks for all of the info about chocolate.... We do go to ASDA and I will look out for that Dominican chocolate. I am not going to tell my husband about the ice cream as he is an ice cream fiend too:)
I know there are some fellow veggies on here so although not organic I should mention that Waitrose have quorn scotch egg balls and quorn bacon for £1.60. It isn't a special offer out anything but the balls were £2.29 not so long ago.

^ Organic wine was from Waitrose and organic prosecco was from Riverford0

I opened some Riverford chutney yesterday leftover from last xmas.. I'm not a chutney buyer/eater normally but I would eat it if I was out and it came on the plate. It was ginger and pear and it's really sweet! I like sweet things but this was even a bit too sweet for me, nice enough though but I couldn't eat a lot of it. I had it with a ploughmans type meal but think it might have gone better with meat..? not quite sure what else to eat it with myself. Will give some of the jar to my mum to see what she thinks, she eats more chutney than I do and may have a better idea of what it's like in comparison to other brands.0

If I could eat chutney I would but even Branston is just soo sugary to me. OH doesn't like it so I don't even get to sniff the jar.
Brown Cow Organics https://www.browncoworganics.co.uk sell their yogurts via Abel & Cole. They are now making organic yogurt and organic pannacotta for River Cottage too.0 -
malmesbury has posted elsewhere that Co op has 9 rolls of Velvet loo roll for £3 18/0 - 08/10.For those who are lurking and not aware of it, Velvet's manufacturees plant three new trees for every one they use. If you can't get to a Co op then Iceland has 6 for 2.50 and ASDA has 16 for £6
OH has just looked over shoulder to say that I must tell you that Abel & Cole beef and vegetable pasties are: "absolutely beautiful". He also thinks if you spread the Granovita organic vegetarian herb pate on thickly it's "fine", especially under bland cheese in a roll.
MSE deal - from today MSE blog says Tesco selling 24 rolls of Velvet for 4.50
You can also get a 50p coupon from www.velvettissue.com0 -
Lidl offers from 19/08

- Princes tuna chunks in brine (provided the brine is just salt + water) 4 x 350g was £4 now £3
