Need alternative to phone internet

I live in a bedsit and use my phone as a wifi hotspot. It's unlimited browsing but downloads and media don't load properly (my 250mb limit is used in one day for some reason) and it's generally slow, constantly bombarded with 'you've used your limit' warning screens. I'm not sure I can get broadband fitted, is it usually allowed in a one room bedsit? Doesn't it have to be in a room by the front of the house to do it or what?

If not, what are my alternatives? I want a decent priced unlimited (or a really good limit!) internet as I use it a lot...

You can have broadband in a garden shed if you want it, the only proviso for ADSL broadband is a working phone line, for which you have to pay an install charge and then line rental.
The only alternatives are VM cable service (if available) or a wireless dongle (but the later does not sound suitable for you at all).
Start with an exchange search on www.samknows.com for your LLU providers.
PS: it's not downloading that is measured, but data usage (both upload and down)-and 'browsing' still uses data.

    Thankyou!

I will ask the landlord if I can get broadband installed. What will be the best unlimited option for me? Don't want to pay a lot.

    No concern of the landlord.
Since broadband is exchange-specific, we can't tell you what is the best tariff without you providing the info already requested-the samknows data.

AAAAAAA he said yes I booked Virgin but then got an e-mail saying there's already 2 people in the property who have it so I can't! Everyone else needs line rental... :'(

VM does not require line rental, but the price you pay without a line is almost as much as with-minimal saving.

You're right, ordered Sky instead. Asked BT first but they wanted £150 to install the line, Sky charged £10. How does that work?

I would most strongly recommend you speak to your landlord first before anything is installed. If you're having a new line installed it sounds like you don't have a line to your bedsit. The landlord ought to be consulted if that's all being put into their property.

Some landlords will use any excuse to withhold all or part of your deposit, so ask first to cover your own back!

I asked him and he said yes as I posted above :)
