Still Have Email Problem - Stressed Out!

I posted on here about 10 days ago, but the problem is still going on and really getting me stressed out.

I am still receiving about 100 emails per day from all over the world which say they are returned emails that cannot be delivered, but of course I didn't send the original ones. The only part of my email address that is correct is the bit after the @ so why are they getting through to my account?

My ISP provider says I cannot change my username with them which logs me onto the internet and is the same as the email address and so I am concerned that this is comprising my security and identify.

Why would people send out thousands of emails purportedly from my address, I just don't understand.

I have ready everything I can find, but I am just NOT very technical when it comes to understanding computers.

PLEASE, any advice would be appreciated. How can I make this stop?

Thanks.

Is it your own domain or your ISPs? If it's your ISP then it is only possible for you to get the emails if your address is on the list, you are probably only seeing the first address in the list but yours will be listed in the CC.

Hello, sorry to hear about your problem.

If i were you i would change the password for a start. I would also ditch the email and use something like https://www.gmail.com this has a very good spam filter with large limit (2gb) plus if you move from your isp you wont have to give up the email address.

Not sure what you mean - sorry to sound thick! I have always used outlook express for email and it is through my ISP. These returned emails all have my exact email address from the @ onwards, but all different things before it. There isn't anything in the CC, it's as if they all originated from my address.

I am now checking the email not using outlook express but logging into my email address from the ISP home page as I think outlook brings it all into your own computer whereas the other way it stays on the ISP server - probably totally wrong about this though!

have you got a good and upto date virus and spyware protection installed, it could be malware related, either on your PC, or a friends, or it could just be a spam bot somewhere on the net.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I mean is it your own domain after the @, ie something@myname.co.uk or is it your isps domain ie myname@tiscali.co.uk? If it's the latter your address will definitely be in the return list otherwise you wouldn't receive it.

It is my name. and the ISP.co.uk after the @

    Does this make a difference?

I subscribe to McAfee for virus protection and use the Microsoft firewall.

Is it true that Outlook Express brings emails directly into your computer whereas checking them on ISP site doesn't? Could this be the problem?

If it was your own there would be more you can do about it. But since it is only the ISP email address there's not much you can do to stop the email being sent to your address.

    It is like: mickeymouse@disneyland.fsworld.co.uk

    Does that make it difficult?

I don't use Outlook myself, I use ThunderBird, but I expect some of the solutions are going to be roughly the same. If you only tend to email or get email from roughly the same people then create a filter for each person and then create a filter to dump the rest or create a filter that moves all returned mail to another folder.

But I would recommend to get either a gmail or yahoo mail address as both have very good spam filters, plus I know with gmail you can send all your mail through the gmail server and use Outlook to get it from gmail after its been through their filters.

Its just a fact of using email, I really wish the ISP's would take more responsibility for spam and virus', but of course some of them make money from spam.
