Hi!
I am trying to find a 7.5t vehicle hire excess insurance online. I've googled until I can't google any longer). Could anybody recommend a site please?
I have bought a huge storage shelving on ebay near Leeds and what to arrange colection now to be delivered to Manchester. Unfortunately, it is too long (6.2m bars) which won't fit into small van. I have found a 7.5 truck for day hire at £90 (inc VAT) from local hire company, but they offer it with really high excess of £750. I have used icarhireisurance before for van hire excess insurance (approx £8 a day), but they don't offer it for 7.5t vehicles.
Could anyone suggest anything? I am not used to hiring vehicle without adequate insurance cover(. Or perhaps someone used 7.5t home removal service (man&van) in Manchester?
Thank you.

What are you intending to hire? A 7.5t flatbed and have the poles overhanging the end by 20cm or so? I believe you will also have to use a tachometer for all 7.5t and above vehicles so make sure you know how to use it.
Looks like no one offers it, or if they do they arent good at SEO, as everyone has a 3.5t limit. Guess your options are to either pay the rental companies CDW, be careful and dont damage it or get a man with van. My concern with the later is most tend to have a 3.5t luton or smaller and so I'd be concerned that they dont try and bodge the job to get them "in"0 -
Have you tried getting quotes for a man/van with a 7.5 tonne? Might be easier/cheaper.0

You could fit 6.2m bars on most 3.5gvw Luton Vans.
You put the bars diagonally, one end up in the top corner of the luton and the other end at the opposite side of the rear of the van.

Thanks a lot for replies.
I do have a proper licence for 7.5t, and tacho is not needed if it is for personal use.
I don't think I could put diagonally either (I thought about it) as there are quite a few of them((.
Although I'm a careful driver, but I really wouldn't want to try my luck this way. Perhaps a day insurance might cost even £40-50, but I simply don't know where to look for it. I've asked hire company about it, but they were of no help as they normally hire 7.5t to businesses which do have their own insurance.(
Does anybody know a web site for hiring a man & van with 7.5 (not luton) to compare rates?0 -
Can the shelving take getting wet and be taken apart, or does it need to be transported covered, in one piece.0

As to getting man with van, I used anyvan.com once and it was ok, not sure how many will have a suitable vehicle but then you post the job description and its up to them to check0
-
No, it consists mainly of metal bars 6.20mx0.10mx0.10m forming a side of 6.20mx0.90mx0.10m (LxWxH). It is easier to show it, but I can't post links yet (ebay number 120995300982) as I'm new member here.
Eventually, I'll cut them to size to fit in the garage, but I wouldn't want to cut straight away as they have more value when non-cut if it makes sense. Besides, I might be left with excess.0 -

I've come across this web site, but I hesitated to use it before you mentioned it. I assumed it might charge % for the job as any other site these days.) I'll try it now and see what happens.0 -
I dont know if they charge a percentage of the job or a flat fee to bid or a subscription to the men with vans but there is no fee to you as the person posting the job (same as with most the freelancing sites)0

I know this might be a bit of a long shot but do you have any haulage firms near you? If so, maybe pop in to their office or give them a call and ask them if they deliver to the area you want your purchase from & if so, would they consider a pick up/collection for you & how much would they charge. I know firms where I live have done it for people & it has cost far less than hiring a lorry etc.0
