If you know the guy who is installing why don't you use him for ongoing services/breakdowns etc...... ?

I probably will do to be fair!

Its a Lamborghini boiler... which is a Ferroli. I have Home Emergency cover with my home insurance which I pay a premium for and that also covers GCH with no excess... so its safe to say I will be ok!
  • You're planning on selling?
Our survey on the house we bought stated the boiler make (Baxi) was 'problematical' and prone to breakdowns. Damn right it was. Put up with it for about 18 months.
We have since then had a Vaillant for about 5 years and it's been perfect.
A Baxi is a Lexus to your Megane of a Ferroli. Trust me on this.
Ebay the storage heaters and spend the extra on summat decent. It WILL aid resale.
Once you've had no heating for 24 hours in the depths of winter you'll think differently about saving money on a boiler. Insurance or no insurance, if they can't get out to you same day, if they can't get hold of spares, you'll freeze, along with your water pipes.
Listen to the gassafe people on here - they know what they're on about.

Ha, Ebay the storage heaters? They more or less fell apart when taking them off..... the bricks were minging!

Our friend has a Ferolli boiler and has had no problems with it so I will risk it! If it proves problematic, i shall deal with it as and when.

Im not disputing what the gas safe people on here say, Im sure they know very well what boilers are the best. Unfortunately my budget didnt stretch, similarly when buying a car my budget only stretched to a Ford.... not an Audi.

I came on here asking for what it was, is it a decent quote? Iv since found out that it is. Instead i get people throwing insults like Idiot.

Maybe people are bitter because they are being undercut? I dont know.

    Thanks for the advice though

Your budget wont stretch mate, nto when you're being charged 2k for that trash :(

It's an investment and as above if you decide to sell the house you can instantly knock 2/3k off as the buyers will no doubt see a very cheap boiler and use that as bartering for knocking you down on price.

    I know we did :)

Not half as much as they would have knocked me down without the house being centrally heated!

my friend has an ugly girlfriend but i don't want one,

why would we be bitter you haven't asked us to quote for the job, tbh we aren't bitter just a slight smirk that you are trusting an installer that would recommend Ferolli, shame Halstead aren't still around i bet he would have recommended one of those if he could, for not alot more money you could have got an half decent boiler, but you have made your choice so i hope it all goes ok for you.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

  • Interesting thread this as we're about to buy our first house which still has storage heaters.

Ours is a 3 bed semi and I'm not even sure where to start with regards to costs for work. We will be more than happy if this is our house for the next 20 years so we would like to do it all properly.

Any ideas where I should start looking?

    Thanks
