Hi All
Just had a quote from a local firm for a new GCH system to be installed as the property currently has Electric storage heaters which are no good!
Its a 2 bed mid terrace house and price includes:
1 x Ferroli Combi Boiler
4 x double radiators ( inc thermostats )
1 x chrome towel radiator with chrome valves
removal & disp of 2 x storage heaters
All pipework and labour inc along with Gas certificates.
£2000.
Anyone think this is good?

No..you've been quoted for a Ferroli:eek: Copper or plastic pipe? Size of rads? Brand of TRV?
Cheap quote. What do the others look like? Ask about Remeha.0 -
OMG i knew it had to happen sometime, I am going to totally agree with diy on this one, do not touch Ferroli with a barge pole cheap, nasty & will break down as soon as you look at it, 3 things tell me you should get some more quotes 1 you don't wanna hear & 2 that you will.
1. the quote is too cheap (that's the one you don't wanna hear).
2. four rads with four trv's at least one rad can't have a trv & this is the one where the room stat is, it's not good enough just to use the towel rail as a "bypass" rad.
3. I wouldn't use a company that recommends Ferroli if that is their boiler of choice that tells me everything i need to know about that company & what i am going to get for my money.
diy is right with regard to Remeha i don't fit or recommend anything else.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
As above, Ferroli appear to be a none too popular brand.
I paid £500 more for a Worcester Bosh, Extra Rads, proper TRV's and a decent wireless controller.
Where are you located?0 -
I do know the guy who is installing so I suppose this is why its so cheap.
When I had the quote, I wanted it as cheap as possible... Im not too fussed about fancy boilers, as the only reason I am getting central heating installed is to make the house more sellable ( will be selling up in 2 years time!).
Same installer did a mate of mines - along with a ferroli boiler 2 years ago.... hasnt had a problem with it.
Size of rads - 1200 x 600 (2) and 600 x 500 (2). (doubles )0 -
it's not the fancy boiler you should be concerned about Ferroli are carp but then I'm only an installer so what do i know, just go with your mate, there are cheap boilers & there are carp boilers, when it breaks down (& it will) & it costs you £500 to repair it's not been such a cheap job after all has itI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Thanks,
I did a bit of research on the Ferroli, and there are obviously people out there with problems, but I have also read that people have had theirs 10 yrs + and its still going strong.
Due to the tight budget, I think were best to stick with it. I have a homecare plan with British Gas anyway so if anything goes wrong its covered right?

CheersThe difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
So you want to pay for a new boiler? Then whilst the boiler is under warranty pay for BG cover as well?
Ferroli = crap and will probably not honour warranty.
You having a Ferroli fitted and then taking out BG cover = at best waste of money, worst = idiot.
Best to get a good boiler fitted. Price will be no more than crap Ferroli + BG cover for 2 years.0 -

Only have to add that Ferroli's are so horrid you'll be glad of that BG cover, parts costs are horrendous!0
