  • Thanks very much guys for all the helpful comments. Trust me, despite the presence of a few trolls here and there on MSE, it is one of the best forums on the internet mostly full of helpful people. So I tend to ignore the not-so-helpful comments and even thank them for bumping my thread :)

I have already got the electoral register residency certificate and council tax bills but need a third proof also as the home office needs these proofs from three different sources with my partner's and my name , covering a continuous period of time. Unfortunately, the utility bills etc have not been in joint names so not much use in this case. I have not changed my address throughout this period so it wont make any difference which address they print on the statements.

Thanks a lot for all the helpful comments again :)
  • Obviously underhanded but..... I needed proof of co-habitation and also had had utility bills just in my name. To solve the problem going forward I called my provider and added my partners name to the bills.

I then asked when would the next bill be produced so that we would have it in joint names and they advised that actually with their system if they were to reprint one of the historic bills that it would come out in joint names even though it was in a sole name when originally issued.

May be worth a call to see if yours are the same.

Surely this would be false evidence.

  • They are official/ genuine letters from a utility provider and they are dated within the periods that are asked for thus meet banks and HO/UKBAs requirements.

Should utility companies be doing it? Not a question for me to answer

Of cause you could add someone to your bill before they've even moved in with you and still banks and HO would accept them as utility companies do no checks on these things - never understood why their letters are held in such high regard

I have come to know the proofs in single names can also be submitted. They can match the names against the same address. Anyway, for all positive helpful responses, thanks a bunch again.:)
  • Although I do appreciate that on here posters tend to think the banks and the rest should do such things for free or at an nominal charge of a couple of quid..........
Once you start dealing with solicitors in your life you will rapidly realise that £20 for producing/printing out 3 years of statements and stuffing them in the post is one of the best and cheapest bargains you have seen or ever like to see.
