Speeding Ticket
Hi,
wonder if anyone can help.
Had my first speeding ticket in 30 years last week. Didn't think was over, but they claim I was doing 47 mph in a 40 zone.
Before sending it back admitting guilt I wondered if anyone could clarify the following:
Is there no tolerance for measuring mistakes?
3 points and £ 60.00 for being 7 over in a 40 zone appears somewhat excessive?
Seem to recall there is a caveat about the lack of speed camera warning signs can throw out a ticket.
Thanks your help is appreciated.

the question is do you really want to argue it in court, being that you could end up in a worse off situation, court fee's based on earnings aswell.
if the evidence is irrefutable then dont despute it.0 -

Yes there is tolerance, it's called a fine and penalty points,0 -
OP, get on to the forums on https://www.pepipoo.com, and someone will take a look at the ticket for you.0

AS above you could post on pepipoo or at least read some of the threads on there. Is there no tolerance for measuring mistakes?
My wife had 2 for 36 in a 30 and was not best pleased that 1mph less might have been enough!Seem to recall there is a caveat about the lack of speed camera warning signs can throw out a ticket.0 -
Where did this alleged offence take place? Was it in Scotland?
In England, an alleged 47 in a 40 would normally be resolved with the offer of a speed awareness course costing around £100, but with no points attached.
Post full details here for further help;-

Is there no tolerance for measuring mistakes?
Your speedometer is toleranced to read up to 10% higher than actual speed so when you were caught it could have been showing over 50mph.
There is very little measuring inaccuracy or tolerance in properly used and set up speed cameras, certainly not as much as 7mph.
Police where I live have a very public Zero Tolerance policy on motoring.3 points and £ 60.00 for being 7 over in a 40 zone appears somewhat excessive?
I'm sure it used to be 3 points, £60 plus a "victim surcharge" or £75 no points and a speed awareness course.0 -

I guess it is an absolute offence really, the lmit its 30 so technically 31 is speeding. I'm sure they'd be hard pressed to prove their equipment is that accurate. I thought that was the point of the ACPO guidelines - giving a margin of error but no room to be called for inaccuracy?
I'd certainly want to challenge it!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

That's man int' pub gossip. They may however enforce at 10% above ie 33mph in a 30, 44mph in a 40, with a speed awareness course being the preferred disposal option at that speed.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
