You are going to struggle to get all inclusive within your budget as flights alone come to £380"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
Sorry Bagand-so people are not confused. What you have put down is correct in that if you put a flight (which has the ATOL protection) & seperate accom-sure the flight is ATOL protected but the whole thing is not a fully protected ATOL package. Also the bit where you've put'ATOL only applies to the flight, not the accom' IS correct in THIS example, but for it to be a fully protected ATOL package the WHOLE thing has to go under a Travel Agents ATOL.I think in the way you worded it people would think that as long as the flight had ATOL that the whole deal is FULLY protected -but it's not. if someone puts together, say a thomas cook flight & accom from someone else-the whole thing is NOT a COMPLETE ATOL PROTECTED PACKAGE-just the flights are covered & it is NOT a package holiday.
If an Agent has their OWN atol licence & puts all flights/hotels/transfers under that licence-THEN IT IS COMPLETELY ATOL PROTECTED PACKAGE.
So if say the accom company went bust, they overbooked you, etc-YOU would have to sort it out as your contract is with the accommodation supplier-NOT with the Agent as it is NOT a apckage holiday. Likewise-if the flight was cancelled then yes-you'd get a refund & may be a bit of compo BUT IT IS UP TO YOU AT YOUR OWN COST TO RE-BOOK ANOTHER FLIGHT. So what would happen to the accommodation? You would get NO refund on that at th 11th hour?
A fully ATOL protected package covers ALL aspects as the Agent BECOMES the Tour Operator so it is THEM who have to sort it out.
That is why there are loads of companies that let you 'put together' a deal on their web-aite-but by you choosing flights FIRST then YOU are taking the physical decision through clicking to select that flight then the accom that you realsie it's not a package but the bits are booked separately. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of this & see an ABTA logo and 'agent for atol protected operator' & think they have a fully protected package holiday-THEY HAVE NOT!
reason it's done this way? MONEY! ATOL costs a lot of money per year & by doing a non-atol quote the responsibility/risk is taken away from the Agent at the expense of security for customers. Depending on flights/accom rates-full ATOL protection can be as little as £10 per person, max usually £30 a head (if a low cost airline). Surely worth the extra?0 -
Will look at it this am. Our ATOL licence details are at http://www.caa.co.uk/ -licence 5704.0

hi-just checked securities web site. I was getting £1530 on the web without transfers or in-flight meals. They also have a 2% credit card charge. The price they gave-have you checked it's the complete 'bottom line' with no extras?
Let me know-as we're also co-op (allbeit a different part)-sure I can get a better fully atol protected flight.

Sorry Bagand-you're talking absolute rubish re: ATOL. if somweone puts together, say a thomas cook flight & accom from someone else-the whole thing is NOT a COMPLETE ATOL PROTECTED PACKAGE-just the flights are covered & it is NOT a package holiday.

Also, can I ask you something (as I feel this is the point I'm getting confused). I can book a bmibaby flight from Birmingham to wherever direct with them, no ATOL or anything as their a scheduled airline. I can then book some accomodation wherever on the net. Now, I can also go into my local Going Places, Co-op etc and they will book me exactly the same flight and can also sort out that accomodation. Would I be protected then? Going Places have an ATOL, but they're booking me on a bmibaby flight? So would I be protected that way or not?
A fully ATOL protected package covers ALL aspects as the Agent BECOMES the Tour Operator so it is THEM who have to sort it out.

Sorry for talking "rubbish". I never said what I posted was completely ATOL protected. The Thomas Cook flights are through flythomascook.com, I said the accomodation wasn't.
I fully understand the benefits of ATOL and what it covers. As you've demonstrated, its an absolute minefield there are so many different ways to go about it. The best example at the moment is Thomsonfly - proudly presenting the ATOL logo on their website. Then, in barely readble smallprint they mention that some flights aren't ATOL protected. Book a flight from Bristol your fine, from Coventry your not protected. From Gatwick or Manchester, well, some are, some aren't.0 -
