Cost of 14 LED lights in bedrooms/bathroom

The reason why I started a new thread, I stated in first post in this thread that I had another thread related to this one, because an electrician had given me a quote and I am asking people for advice if it was reasonable. And as you can see no-one has replied to that post Maybe people are put off from opening that post because of the title because they do not want to give, or can supply, advice. Maybe people are responding here because they have had LED lights recently fitted in their houses so would know that the quote I have been given was reasonable or not.

As people are responding to this thread I learning more about bulbs and their fittings - not that I am going to install any fittings or amend any wiring BUT I am capable of fitting a LED bulb into a fitting.

I am wondering that if the bedroom fittings are mains fed, and hopefully safely wired up, I do not need to pay for additional fittings and wiring. I am having someone else calling tomorrow to give me a quote so I will be a bit more knowledgeable about what I am asking for.

Thanks everyone for the replies as they are appreciated:T

you started this thread 30 mins after you last posted in the old one & as alot of people are at work that is hardly enough time for anyone to comment, plus the first thread is more than relevent to this one as if people had seen that one they wouldn't be asking questions like they have eg can't you replace them yourself or what kind of fittings or supply you have, so you would hopefully get the correct answers to your questions, all it does is to confuse everyone which tbh is a waste of everyones time & effort.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

The best ones on the market just now are Halers but they will come in at around £30-£35 per light. Come with a 7 year warranty and expected to last 20+ years.

I fail to see how I am confusing people and wasting their time and effort. I did say in the first post on this thread that I had another thread, which you kindly inserted the pictures for me because I can't because I am a "newbie". When threads get too long or go off track people get confused. I am unable to post direct links to that thread as well because I am a newbie.

This thread was asking about the merits of the quote I was given and whether it was reasonable. This site is called Money Saving Expert so I am trying to save money by not getting an electrician to quote me for work which doesn't really need doing ie replace the fittings in the bedrooms when the fitting already there can take LED bulbs (thanks to people for the links to bulbs they use).
I am not prepared to do any work, except change bulbs, but I do not want to pay for unnecessary work. I want everything to be safe.

If this thread is confusing people can a MOD merge them?
  • I can now post links and pictures. I am sorry if this is confusing anyone, it is not what I set out to do:o

Link to the 1st thread My first thread - Electrical wiring - is it safe?

  • I am going to go with this quote I was given -

    4 x IP rated chrome downlight GU10 in the bathroom £15 each = £60
10 x LED bulbs for the bedrooms as the existing fittings are ok - thanks oldskoo1 for the link, £6.30 each = £63
To make all the wiring safe and to pull back the insulation etc = £120

    So all together = £243

Sorry if i came over slightly harshly, but the highlighted bit above was exactly what i was saying & something you wanted to find out, the first thread told of the problems you were having & showed the pics therefore that would then in turn effect the answers that people gave, i know you put a link to the first thread but unfortunately as a newbi it wasn't clickable & some people just like to be able to click so they won't bother to copy & paste.

I'm glad you got it sorted & the price seems very good too.

    No problem southcoastrgi
Now I can post links and pictures any future threads I create will be clearer to understand...hopefully;)

The LED lights above are not dimmable, can someone who has experience of dimmable LED's recommend one to me?
If a bulb is not dimmable is it just off or on, and does it shorten the lifespan of the bulbs?

That wiring is appalling. Inappropriate connectors, untidy & unrestrained wires. Also, it would make sense to box in the light fittings and then insulate over the whole lot, to keep your heating bills down.
