Fluffymummy that pic was brilliant made me laugh:j
I thought it was more expensive than gas until I spoke to a dog walker the other day, she said that gas is more expensive now. Perhaps she was getting muddled up, yes it is a warm air system.
Southcoast will be able to tell me if I can work out this dammed new phone of mine:rotfl:0 -

Ah! ...........dog walkers are now the people to ask about energy usage are they ? or am I barking up the wrong tree ?
Yes gas is more expensive now - BUT electricity is even more expensive.................0 -
A heating system that hasn't been maintained, with vents papered over sounds incredibly dangerous. If the vents are blocked, maybe it is trying to blow air out but can't which might perhaps cause the banging? Have you checked the fuse box to check the wiring at that end is safe? I think you would be crazy to try to use it - you'd be much better off getting it taken out and something up to date put in. If you want an electric heater, why not buy a modern one?0

Definitely doesn't sound like a good idea. I gather from your description that it's a hot air system, basically a big fan heater with ducting to vents in different rooms. If the vents are papered over then there will be no-where for the hot air to escape and it may overheat. At least as it's not gas it won't poison you with carbon monoxide.
As for energy prices, electricity is roughly 14p/kWh and gas 4p kWh which is why electricity isn't usually used for heating. After all who would bother with expensive boilers and the whole palaver of piping hot water around their houses if electric heaters were cheap to run?Solar install June 2022, Bath

I've never seen one like this but it looks to me that it should have been removed years ago & i would def not be switching it onI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Climatrix is a US HVAC company based in Iowa. The style of the logo suggests something dating from the 50's or 60s. Even if you could find someone familiar with the beast then then chance of getting spares are probably zero. Its obviously been mistreated by the state of the casing. I'm sorry to say that my view would be "potential deathtrap" and the sooner its removed the better.
Sorry Op but I know thats not what you want to hear.

Get rid. It is
1) ancient so
2) unmaintained hence
3) potentially a massive shock hazard or
4) fire hazard if it arcs/overheats and just to rub it in...
5) bloody expensive to run
A modern efficient combi boiler system will probably pay for itself within a year or two compared with this dinosaur0 -
Oh well looks like it will have to go:(
Thankyou southcoast for posting the photos and for takijng time to help me, it is much appreciated:A0 -
If you do use it, I'd remove all the paper from on top of it.:eek:0
