Hi
I moved into my house a while ago and noticed it still contained the old heating system, it is called Climatrix, the timer is bust and the old vents have been papered over.
There is a big iron container thing under the stairs which is part of this old electric heating system.
I had the plug which supplies power to this container turned off.
One day recently, it accidentally got switched on and the container heated up in no time and warmed up the kitchen brilliantly -however the thing started to bang from time to time so I turned it off reluctantly.
It used to have a knob on the front of it, but all that is left is the thing the know slid on to. I can move it around with pliers but have no idea when to stop.
Is it possible to move this control to a position that I can get the container heated and stop the banging?
Hope I have explained this clearly enough.
Its just that if I can safely use it to heat the kitchen it would save me money since gas is so expensive these days
Hope someone can help me please? Think I need a man in my life:rotfl:

It sounds incredibly dangerous, how do you know its not going to explode into flames? give off deadly fumes? also where do you think the power for heating is coming from, electric heating is way more expensive than gas heating.
have you tried goolgling it, there is no information out there, I would seriously avoid using it and even cut the plug off to stop accidental activation.0 -

Hi Tony
Thats the problem I dont really know if its safe to use.
To be honest I havent really done a comparison of gas and electric its just that with gas prices continuing to rise since we have to import it these days I was hoping that in the future I could use this as a heater, but as you say , I dont know if its safe or not.
I cant take the chance of turning it on really.
Thankyou a lot for your reply, you may have just talked some sense into me.:)0 -

Sounds like a warm air system similar to a Johnson and Starley unit but with an electric heater rather than gas. If it is then in effect its just a massive fan heater that was designed to blow hot air into all the rooms through the vents. As above if it runs on electricity then its going to be more expensive to run than gas bearing in mind gas is around 1/4 of the price per Kwh compared to electricity.Adventure before Dementia!0

So how do you think most of our electricity is generated, if not in gas-fired power stations? Standard rate electricity is approximately 3 times more expensive per kWh, so if you have the option of gas heating, I suggest that you use it.No free lunch, and no free laptop
