Virgin Home Move

I have recently moved home to an area that Virgin does not serve. I would like to take my services with me but this obviously is not possible. I have called Virgin to cancel but they want £170 to do this, can anyone advise me on what I can do about this? Surely if Virgin cannot deliver the service then I should be able to walk away? I am tied into another 10 months of a contract. I have reduced the package to the minimum but its still over £30 a month.
Thanks in anticipation.

You can't "walk away" from your contract. It's not Virgin's fault that you are moving to an area not covered by their services. You'll have to pay the early cancellation fee.0

You can switch to Virgin National instead (ADSL based), though obviously that will not offer you the TV service, if you have that. However it will then start you on a new 12m contract, and it's just a resold BT Wholesale product.
As above, VM contracted with you at your current address, and do not guarantee service nationally (only about 60% of the UK is covered), so if you choose not to transfer to VN then you are liable for the full ETC.
