O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 9th October 2012

OS Daily - Tuesday 9th October 2012 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

A very good early morning to all - I've been awake since 2.30 as DH coughed, snored and hogged the bed. No wonder we sleep separately most of the time! I'm going to turf him out again tonight - I much prefer to sleep on my own, and he likes cats jumping all over him in the night whereas I bellow and send them flying when they stand on my hair. I contemplated crashing on the sofa as the back bedroom was cold, but there were several cats there and I couldn't be bothered to move them all off.

Dinner last night was toad in the hole - I wasn't overly impressed as I think the batter needed an extra egg, but DH made 'nom nom' noises and wolfed down 3/4 of it. He gets terribly excited when I do old-style stodgy food, because his mother never did - he was a latchkey kid with a bowl of soup for dinner. I prised him away from his laptop and we watched Prometheus which was complete rubbish; he's atoning for days/weeks of neglect :)

Tonight is pork chops with mustard mash and broccoli, and I've just had a fishfinger + ketchup sandwich for breakfast. My stomach's going to protest about all the wheat, I just know it, but I never seem to learn. Unsure about lunch so far - may have a bowl of porridge before leaving work if I'm hungry as it's free. The WM and TD are on, even if all the clean stuff still needs to be put away. I'll trawl the market this afternoon on the way home for decent veg for the next few days.

I'm working 9.00-1.30 today, tomorrow and Thursday, so something approaching a normal starting time which suits me better, although I'll go in a bit earlier to miss the commuter rush and make sure I get a seat. I got a pair of shoes delivered from Next yesterday which should be waterproof enough to see me through winter rain and snow; I only have one pair of work shoes at a time.

That's it - not a very exciting day. Sometimes I wake up and think 'Today has nothing to offer me.' Probably the wrong attitude, especially today as I get to start the planning on a big work project that I'm managing; it's partly why I woke up early because I had a good dream about it. Think it's due to stay dry today so that's good.

Have a good day everyone :)

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I'm so pleased I managed to get a new coat on Saturday, £4.95 from the CS, I did an extra Duty yesterday as we are short staffed & it was cold & wet, I was snug as a bug in my coat.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Light cloud and a real nip in the air here this morning, DH up and now off to work. Washing on the line.

Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, fish, jacket potato and veg for me. Dinner tonight will be spag bol, as hairdresser is booked for tonight to cut DH's, DS1 and DS2's hair, so I can cook whilst she's cutting their hair.

Work yesterday wasn't too busy first thing but then turned into a manic Monday late morning and well into the afternoon, but it did help the day go quit quickly.

Have told DH last night that depending on what feedback we get regarding the caravanning "situation" I'm definitely considering making a written formal complaint regarding it as I'm now to a point where I'm not willing to put up with unacceptable behaviour from people who hold responsible positions. Virtually everyone we caravan with are good decent honest people that give their time freely and happily and enjoy what they do, but some just get plain nasty and vindictive (sp?) when they don't get their own way. I don't feel making verbal threats, swearing and accusing people of things that are not happening/don't exist (they have no proof because it isn't happening - only in their imagainations!) is acceptable behaviour - we will know over the next day or two what's happening and then I'll decide whether to keep a dignified silence or make a formal complaint.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning all,

So this mornings job is to cut my fringe and put a colour on my hair. The cheapest I can get it done in a salon is £50 and just can't do that at the moment but can't stand my roots any longer:eek: anyway fingers crossed it turns out ok.
I need to pop into the local town and do the charity shop rounds. I am desperate for some warmer clothes and some knee length boots.
Tea tonight is chicken, new potatoes green beans and corn on the cob with a cheese and chive sauce.
I'm waiting for a parcel so hope it comes this morning while I'm faffing about.
DS is struggling with a sore throat but trying not to take any time off as he is having a long break at Christmas and can't miss any more work.
Had a dreadful dream last night, I think it's because I'm job searching and even though I don't plan on returning to teaching I think it's made me a bit anxious. I've worked with vulnerable adults in lots of other capacities so hoping for something like that, but it's not easy to find anything as we all know. Then I feel guilty for not going back to teaching which would be more straight forward, I just can't bring myself to do it as the thought makes me ill:(
Have quite a few bits finishing on eBay today so need to list some more. Managed to pick my dad up a lovely cotton traders shirt last night we he loves for Xmas just need something for mum now.
Best get on, have a good Tuesday all x

    Morning all,

Got up to a beautiful blowy dry day, so shoved a load in the wm, the heavens have just opened :( guess its the airer again then.

Moorhen, sorry we missed your Birthday, I dont think you were on the list, bleated Happy Birthday to you.

DD was supposed to hear about the job yesterday or today, nothing so far, so hope its today, I hope they let her know either way, I think its rude if they dont.

So today, drop dd at work, home to tidy and hoover downstairs, then do the same upstairs, do an online shop, then go and see dad, hopefully I might get an hours sit down later, (seem to have no time lately)

Dinner will be some pork left from the roast yesterday, with mash and sweede, and runner beans.

    Have good days all,

BB any improvment with Maud ?

    Good morning all,
Moorhen,Happy belated birthday-hope it was a good one.
BB-really hope Maud is feeling a bit better.
Well its a lovely sunny day here in the North West,& we've not had many of them this year,it seems to have rained solidly every day for weeks (months!) very depressing so I aim to tidy the garden up a bit later, &get some more washing out too.

I was meant to go to Dunelm this morning,I could have hitched a lift from DS1,but I cant find my purse anywhere.I'm sure I've not permanently lost it & it must be in the house somewhere, but with the house being upside down with the decorating over the last week I just dont know, looked in the usual places :(

Plenty to be getting on with anyway, bedroom furniture to shift around today ready for the carpet cleaner tomorrow,he rang to change the day.
Need to go and dig in the chest freezer for tea,bet I cant find anything,DS1 got a bag of chips out yesterday that were near the bottom.

Bye for now, have a good day everyone x
