I've been a fan of Ainol since buying their Novo7 "Paladin", for around £100 (it was the first ever device to be shipped with Android 4 "Ice Cream Sandwich" installed) I'd been an Android fan .... well, as long as there's BEEN Android to be a fan of: I owned an HTC "Dream" mobile phone (which was what launched Android) I invested a furether £100 in an Ainol "Novo7 Aurora2", which has a very similar tech spec' to an iPad 3: 1 megabyte of RAM, 16 Megabytes of ROM, a 1.5Mhz CPU, and a superb IPL display. MOreover it's a 7" screen in 16:9 format (which makes it almost exactly the same size as a slim Penguin paperback book) i.e. just the right size for a man's jacket pocket.

As I've remarked elsewhere, Android tablets split into two basic groups: (1) those made for Western buyers by companies you've actually heard of (like Asus, who make the Nexus) (2) those made for China's own domestic market by companies that (unless you're a geek like me) are totally unknown to you - Ainol, for one, or Haipad, or Newsme, or Windows... and these range in quality from "not at all bad" to "How do they do it for THAT low a price?!" If you want one... check out the many MANY video reviews on Youtube, and remember that "Google is our friend". You'll need to import direct from China, but there are dozens of pretty good on-line retailers who're quite happy to sell to Westerners, and who accept PayPal. Best Deal I've seen recently was on AliExpress.com (China's equivalent of Ebay) where the OTA Mobile Device company was offering a "pretty good" 7" tablet for US$60 - including delivery! A friend of mine bought one of them, and has been impressed by the quality. He suspects that it's a clone of a tablet being sold by Argos for £150; the tech' spec' seems pretty good. $60 is around £37.50. Given the high spec', that's quite a difficult price to beat for value! (And the same item is STILL on offer, as of now)
