UKPC - Credit Rating

Hi,

I received a parking ticket from UKPC for being parked slightly over the white line. I have ignored several letters and not contacted them. The latest letter I have received is Debt Recovery Plus pursuing the outstanding debt amount (£150).

My concern is, will any of this affect my credit rating? I hope to apply for a mortgage soon and really need to avoid any marks on my credit report.

Are people fairly confident this doesn't end up in a county court judgment?

My ticket was issued in Northern Ireland (not sure if there is any difference in law here).

Thanks

It will not affect your credit rating or even be on your credit report. This would only happen if they won in court and you failed to pay within 30 days

right, let's say a pig flew over your house and they took you to court - first, you'd have to loss (unlikely) and then you'd have to refuse to pay within the 30 days.

Next time your door-bell rings, check to see if it's Gary Barlow because that is more likely than this impacting your credit rating.

:) Thanks to Driver8 for this simple summary which I have tweaked (Northern Ireland is only different in that you can't try the new POPLA 'appeals service' we have been talking about in threads, and the PPC cannot aim their threats at anyone except the driver):

PRIVATE PARKING TICKETS - DON'T PAY!
IT IS NOT A FINE! YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING ILLEGAL!

This is an information page for the thousands of people who receive "tickets" from private companies in the UK ever day at supermarkets, retail parks, and in any other privately-owned carpark.

We are NOT encouraging anybody to openly flout parking restrictions on private land, or to refuse to pay reasonable charges for parking. Landowners have a right to make reasonable charges for the use of their land.

For advice specific to your case, you should visit the forums at FightBack Forums or Parking / Traffic Offences.

Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

    1. What you should know about these companies

It is important to remember that private parking companies (or PPCs as they are often called) have NO OFFICIAL POWERS - that's right, none at all! They give out their "tickets" on the basis that you have seen the signs in their car park and that you have therefore agreed to a contract obliging you to pay a certain sum of money.

    2. What happens to people who don't pay?

In 99.9% of cases, absolutely NOTHING!

The company pays the DVLA £2.50 to get your address, and then sends lots of threatening letters which can be safely IGNORED.

    3. Can they affect my credit rating?

NO! The only way your credit rating could be affected by ignoring private parking companies is if you were taken to court, lost, and then still refused to pay. But they will not take you to court.

    IN SHORT

The vast majority of the time, you can safely IGNORE tickets from private parking companies, they are not official fines.

The vast majority of the time, you can safely IGNORE the threatening letters, including those from debt collection agencies.

You DO NOT have to pay a penny of your hard-earned money to these companies. Remember that the chances of being taken to court are very slim indeed.

    DO NOT IGNORE COURT PAPERS!
If you receive real court papers from a private parking company (very rare, and never, ever heard of from UKPC) then you should go to FightBack Forums or Parking / Traffic Offences for help defending the claim. Do not be afraid to sign up and ask questions regarding any paperwork you are not sure about.

How to deal with Penalty Charge Notices issued by private companies - YouTube

    THEY ARE NOT FINES

Only the Police, some Rail Operators, and Councils/TFL can issue real parking penalties. NOT a private company, please remember that and do not reply, do not tell them who was driving or anything else at all.

It is all a scam like a series of phishing emails to ignore.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Has anyone heard of qp uk parking patrol office based in Manchester. Two weeks ago I was issued with a PCN notice for not displaying a permit when I parked my car on a school car park during the half term holidays in Oldham. There is a warning sign stating, non permit holders will be wheel clamped. But no mention of any company that will be handing out PCN's. I thought the sign was just a deterant put up by the college, but did not realise a private parking patrol office was monitoring the area. If this is not made clear, is it legal that they can enforce the PCN's. £60 seems very steep to park on an almost empty car park. Any advice out there.

The tickets are unenforceable anyway, regardless of the signs (although that doesn't help their case at all).

The landowner is entitled to actual losses only. This would be zero.

The parking company is entitled to even less.

Who was the company who issued the ticket? QP? Is that a typo? I can't find any company of that name on the BPA members list.

If it's an ex-clamper it is very unlikely they are on the BPA list of approved operators. Is it QP UK?? Never heard of them, can you find a website?

DO NOT RESPOND. A firm that are not in the AOS cannot even get your address from the DVLA so don't give it to them!

I'm puzzled at why you ask about this firm on a UKPC thread?

Surely starting your own would be better?

But otherwise, they will be just as powerless to do anything with you?
