I got one of the cheap £13 kettle ones last year, it's a little small but not too shabby for the price :cool:0 -
Can anybody answer a couple of questions?
Do the Lava Rocks need to be replaced after each use? I thought not but speaking to a colleague he informed me that they do.
Can you buy seperate flavourisers to add to the BBQ or do you have to buy a BBQ which already has them?
Thinkin of goin gas but know very little about them at the minute!0 -
Lava rocks do not have to be replaced after every use.
I generally buy calor gas lava rock. They come in boxes.
At the beginning of the season I empty the old lava rock out of my BBQ, pour in a new bag, and top it up with a few that where still good from last year.
So I replace 80% of them every season. I find this keeps the flare ups produced by fat build up to a minimum.
Saying that I would like to buy a new stainless steel bbq this year. But I am having trouble finding a gas one that uses lava rock.0 -
Do not all Gas BBQ's use Lava Rock?
I'm thinking of buying the B&Q winchester identified in the which report.
Looking for one with flavourisers so I lose as little on taste as possible.
Anyone have any comments on the Winchester?0 -

Ended up buying this one from Homebase
Vicenza
Took about 2 hours to assemble, cooked on it yesterday and worked a treat!!
Could probably have done with a liitle more Lava Rock, came with 1 bag but don't think it's quite enough!0 -
I bought a gas one from Asda last year in the sales.....only cost me about £25 which was a great bargain and its been fantastic!!
Ive used it a quite few times now and the notch hasn't moved much on the calor bottle so i think its seems to be well worth the money! I found last year that Homebase was v.expensive for buying the gas bottle (the local garden centre was strangely the cheapest!!) but homebase was v. cheap for the re-fills so best to shop around first for prices.....
(i also made sure i disconnected the gas after using it - not sure if this actually does anything but my dad told me that its safer and won't let any gas escape....mmmm...)
I put two bags of B&Q Lava rocks on my one last year and still use the same ones (as per the instructions) so they should be fine to re-use for a few occassions. The food tastes great on these and they cook stuff really quick too!!
Happy cooking!!

hi, I bought one of these last year from asda (£60 bargain), and have COMPLETELY failed to find the right size "nozzle" on the gas bottle. What I mean is, the regulator (the part of the BBQ on the end of the hose that connects to the bottle) requires a certain diameter gas bottle (there isnt one standard size) and the thing is, I don't know which size it needs. I have to full gas bottles which are both the wrong size.
Can anybody advise as to how I can find out what size connector/gas bottle I need?
The regulator has a number on it i think it says 5/8 (i will check when its light) which I guessed was five 8ths of an inch, but no shop I've ben to knows what size the nozzles on their bottles are.
I hope that makes sense and someone can help us, we didn't have a single BBq last year because of thisand we already wanted some this year and cant
If it helps I can take some photos of the bbq, regulator etc when it's light.
please help!!!
Thanks loads

What is the gas? Propane (normally red) Butane (blue)
You can buy the regalators from ebay for about £5 or less.
I found a empty gas bottle (saved me £20) and it was butane but the gas BBQ i bought was a propane one and changed the fitting and works a treat.0 -
There are 3 main types of regulators for calor bottles
The butane regulators are a clip on type and simply clip on to these cylinders:
Then you have the std proppane regulators, they screw into the valve of these cylinders:
Then there's the patio gas, it uses a clip on regulator like the butane but it is different
llol_slim, you're either trying to fit other makes to a calor style regulator, or you've got a different regulator and trying to fir it on calor bottles. It's very easy to change a regulator, all you need is the new reg and a jubille clip0
