Is this the same esure that list geographic numbers on their website? I've used them before and didn't have to try email first.

Well in that case they've improved since I used them!

Unbelievable that the usual suspects pop up to defend the blatant scam that is auto-renewal. I have been insured with Admiral for the last year and at no time was I told it was an auto-renewing policy. On finding out when I spoke to them about renewal I complained and the (strangely, American) girl told me it was on the certificate of insurance and the schedule. When I looked later it was clear she was lying. It appeared on neither and worst of all was not explicitly stated on the renewal letter. As it is done through a debit card it is completely against the spirit of the legislation that (quite rightly) covers Direct Debits. In fact there's no way you can prevent it. I asked for a new policy to exclude it and they said there is no provision for this.

We urgently need new legislation to outlaw this practice. It's Ryanair policies being applied to insurance. MSE could help by publishing a list of the companies that use it and those that don't.

Have you read the thread in the CAB subforum about the guy who's policy had lapsed and then he crashed?

    He now owes £40,000.

If he had auto renewal, his insurers would have paid.

Auto renewal can be a good thing.

Not so unbelievable is that you automatically go anti industry as you do on all posts.

Except they do at renewal and very clearly do so.

It is not there and she shouldnt have said that. It is on the renewal latter that is sent with those documents though.

It is on the renewal letter.

Debit cards have nothing to do with direct debits.

We urgently need education standards to improve to reduce the number of people who fail to read their documentation.
