Why a joke? Isn't it better than nothing?

No ..what i mean is that Royal Mail have no right to make such an offer. They are a commercial enterprise which is struggling to survive and they have no right to give away stuff to people simply becuase they are on benefits. What next? cheaper petrol/special fast lane cheaper checkouts at Tesco?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Royal Mail (& the Post Office) do an excellent job of alienating their customers.
  • People on low incomes, but they miss out those getting Income Support? Why?
  • Some details about the scheme are now on the Royal Mail website here:

  • Can anyone remember what the 2011 prices were for 1st and 2nd class stamps?
  • What's to stop someone taking their benefit letter/book or whatever into more than one Post Office, and bagging the same deal more than once?

did you click the link? did you see the part about vouchers?

    from the same link

    How much will I save?

The difference between the stamp prices from Christmas 2011 to Christmas 2012 is 14p per stamp, for both 1st and 2nd Class. The maximum saving a customer can make under this offer is £5.04.

No, I'd got the news from a leaflet that came as a mailshot with the post. That leaflet says the same as in the FAQs in that link, about the customer needing a letter from the DWP saying they are in receipt of the benefit. Had I not asked the question on the forum and then followed the link (I did after you mentioned it!) I would have known nothing about vouchers and would have recommended the customer simply went in with her proof of benefits letter. In fact there's nothing I can see on that link that says you have to have a voucher at all.

Ah. Just a minute, That leaflet IS the Voucher. Fair enough, but there's still a possible loophole - I can order more vouchers; at least one by the looks of things. However, the voucher has to have the customer's name on it, so that's where they can see who's used it already.

Well I had to ask :)

Thanks Booter. The offer doesn't start until 6th November and hopefully I'll I get confirmation from the Royal Mail in a few days time. People who just claim the pension savings credit are usually excluded from any this kind of offer so it will be great if we're included for once.

I'll come back and post the Royal Mail reply when I get it. It could also be helpful for those who don't want to post all over Twitter.

hows not using Twitter working out for you?

I asked on Twitter and had the following conversation.

    Royal Mail
I'm sorry but the benefit you mention isn't listed as part of the stamp offer

    Myself
    It does say pension credits.

    Royal Mail
Agreed, but not Pensions Savings Credit I'm afraid,

To make certain I also asked on the Royal Mail Facebook page and had the following response.
Hi Pat, I've checked this for you and there are two parts to pension credit - savings and guaranteee, and both of these are covered within the scheme.

Royal Mail also sent me an email.
In order to purchase stamps under the Royal Mail Voucher Scheme you have to be receiving one the following benefits; Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance or Incapacity Benefit.

I'm sorry but the standard pension does not qualify you for this offer. The criterion for this voucher scheme is listed above. Royal Mail made the decision to only include these 3 benefits to provide some help to people who are currently on a low income and are unable to do anything to change this circumstance due to poor health or being of pensionable age.

So I'm still none the wiser. There isn't really much point in trying to find out online. I shall have to go to the main Post Office in town on November 6th and queue up to ask if they will sell me cheaper stamps.
    Don't mess with pensioners.
