Easiest solution is phone Sky and tell them you box is on the blink and, as money's tight, you want to cancel.

They'll offer you a £65 service call out and fix. Decline that - say money's tight and you want to save the £50 per month you're currently paying.

They should then offer you a free service call out and fix - which will probably mean a replacement secondhand box. Decline that and repeat you want to save the £50 per month you're currently paying.

They should then offer you a brand new (possible 2TB) Sky+HD box and free installation.

Setting unrealistic expectations of calling cancellations isn't going to help this customer.

The service call is at best £15 hasn't been free for at least a year.

You will get offers on a new box OR a discount but not both.

Best price on 2Tb box is £49 + £60 install if you add both HD and multiroom.
Most likely offer is standard sky+HD box and fix the old box, have it put into a second room for multiroom. Free install and repair of old box. All for an extra £10.25 per month for a year.

Freesat has a lot more channels than Freeview http://www.ukfree.tv/allchannels.php. Mostly sh!te I'll admit. Freeview does have one or two such as Dave that aren't available elsewhere.

    Poppycock!

I played my face and got a free 1tb box, brand new not a refurb.

Youview looks promising maybe have a look into that?
  • I just cancelled my sky tv subscription today as I only watched sky living occasionally and not worth the extra expense. I trialled a youview box and got to keep it so I'll be using that instead. I liked youview. It's got good recording capability like sky and has the tv catch up too. I use Netflix too so definately decided that sky's just not worth it and too expensive now.

I thought Netflix was a subscription/PPV service too. Surely you're just going to be paying approximately the same to someone else?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

How do you get to be a triallist with Humax/YouView?
I have 3 of their products, but unfortunately I've always had to pay for them first!
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I only pay £5.99pm to Netflix and I watch it every day. I would rather pay 5.99 than £42pm for sky.

It was a few months ago and I think I got the link off here to trial it. They sent the box and I had to answer a few questionaires every month. At the end of the trial as far as I was led to believe the boxes were to be returned but got an email the month before the trial ended saying that we could keep the boxes. I think I just got lucky :)

But do you watch on your computer screen? I've got a 27" monitor, but it's still far too small for TV watching.
I also like/want high definition. Is this available via Netflix?
