Abbey National Paymentcare on Mortgage

My mortgage was with Abbey I started it in 1985 in my name only and it was was paid off in 2010. In 1998 I started paying Abbey National Paymentcare after being strongly advised to protect myself against sickness or loss of earnings and the cover would protect my motgage for up to a year while off work. I now realise that I would not have been covered as I have been self employed all my working life and was not informed when I took this policy out. Can I claim anything back?

Thanks

The MPPI does cover self employed. So, what makes you think it doesnt?

You have given no valid reason for complaint.

Does that mean if I had no money coming in through lack of work I could have claimed?

You will need to check your policy - Some say that you would have to formally wind up the business before you could claim- it is usually tucked away in the small print.

lack of jobs and unemployment are two different things. Some self employed people have jobs that are seasonable or may only take a few months of the year or require months of work without pay to get a payoff many months later. Income is variable and a period without customer/clients does not make you unemployed.

unemployed is when you cease paying class 2 NI and sign on and the job centre. If the job centre accept you for signing on then usually the insurance company will. (if the insurance company has more onerous requirements then they are usually frowned upon and can lead to success in complaints - such as only paying out if the company fails in debt).

Give the very quick turnaround, it looks like an auto payout decision as investigated complaints are taking much longer. You cant account for getting lucky like that.

they usually only auto payout as it hits 8 weeks. i expect they had little sales evidence to defend the sale.

Did you need your PPI reference number to claim?
Also do you know which insurance company the Abbey used for
paymentcare policies. I want to claim but do not have the reference number, my mortgage was about the same time.

Mortgage insurances would have their own policy number. However, it is not vital to have it.

    The insurance company is irrelevant.
